If you are a retired police officer, fireman, or teacher, and also paid into Social Security prior to Jan 2024, it's likely the government still owes you money. The WEP was eliminated on 01/05/2025, and the government issued reimbursements to people who were affected by the WEP going back to 01/01/2024. But, if you retired between April 21, 1983, and December 31, 2023, what about all that time? In some cases, that could amount to tens of thousands of dollars. Do some research, and don't let the government off the hook. You were robbed! Determine if you were affected by this, and call your congressman and tell them you want ALL the money back they stole from you, and not just going back to 01/01/2024. Please share this with any retired fireman, police officer, or teacher you know. The government may owe them serious money.

No need to define your acronyms, or anything. Every FReeper has heard of Wireless Encryption Protocol.
Which version of Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) do you use?
I love talking about Wireless Encryption Protocol.
Perhaps it is Windfall Elimination Provision?
Now that’s just crazy talk!
It's likely that not every Freeper has heard of the WEP. But, those retirees who were affected by it know exactly what it is.
Now, you went and spoiled it. It was a test, and I was hoping to see just how many basement keyboard warriors wouldn't make the cut.
The amounts concerned are generally the ‘welfare’ component of the Social Security program.
Social Security redistributes money from high annual contributors to lesser annual income contributors.
Many but not all government retirees should be allowed that ‘welfare’ component.
You mean the Windfall Elimination Provision.
Amirite?
Yes, it is a good thing they eliminated it. But, in reimbursing retirees back to Jan 2024, they made a lot of them think they had been fully reimbursed. In reality, if you retired before Jan 2024, you likely weren't.
That is a general belief. But, in reality, you are reimbursed according to your primary insurance amount (PIA) which is based on exactly what you paid into SS. In my wife's case, she paid into both social security and teachers retirement at the same time. As such, she should receive full pensions from both, and not penalized because she also paid into a secondary system.
Yep.
I cannot tell a lie. I typed it into the Interweb search thingy.
I have to agree with you on that. If you paid into Social Security, you need to get it back.
Mrs. R2 got a $11,554 backpay distribution and her SS bennies went from $11.00 per month to $853.00
Thanks WEP!!!
