MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Board of Education has dropped a lawsuit against a mother, who hid a recording device in her daughter's hair that captured verbal abuse inside of a special education classroom at Berkeley Heights Elementary in Martinsburg. In October, Amber Pack put the device in her daughter, Adri's hair, after noticing bruises on her when she came home from school. The lawsuit against Pack didn't hold for long. "Very upsetting," said Berkeley County resident, Ruanna Hess. Another resident, said, "I just thought it was bad." On Tuesday, the board dismissed the counter-lawsuit against Amber Pack, in...

The famed Louisiana Cajun Navy is “standing down” in Houston after looters tried to steal their boats and fired gunshots at them. The Cajun Navy made the announcement in a Facebook post Monday afternoon. “Looters decided to pose as people needing rescue and they attempted to overtake the boats and there were shots fired at the boats,” the post said. “I repeat they are all safe. Looters must have not wanted our boats in the water for rescues.” The Facebook post has since been removed... “They’re making it difficult for us to rescue them,” he said. “You have people rushing...

NOW THAT the Supreme Court has handed down the decision in the University of Michigan affirmative action cases, perhaps the demagoguery can stop. During the months leading up to the June 23 decision, some in the pro-racial preference camp did not have their better moments. Notice the use of "racial preference camp" instead of "affirmative action" supporters. The affirmative action described in President Johnson's Executive Order 11246, issued on Sept. 28, 1965, specifically said things were to be done without regard to race. The 1964 Civil Rights Act says the same thing. Although the language in both is clear, there...

Bill would exempt bicycle riders from stopping at stop signs (Salem-AP) - A bill that has passed the House would exempt bicycle riders from coming to a full stop at stop signs and flashing red lights. They would still have to ride at a safe speed and give the right of way to vehicles or pedestrians approaching an intersection. Cyclists had complained of the inconvenience of getting in and out of toe clips at the signs and lights. The bill goes to the Senate.
