Crooks Using Bluetooth To Steal At Gas Pumps « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2016/08/04/crooks-using-bluetooth-to-steal-at-gas-pumps/ DALLAS (CBS11) -Pump prowlers in Dallas are stepping up their game, stealing bank information in some cases instantaneously with a new device police are calling “scary.” Dallas Police recently discovered five different skimming devices that utilize Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth skimmer (Jeff Paul - CBS11) Bluetooth skimmer (Jeff Paul – CBS11) “I think that’s terrible,” said Tracy Schlossstein, a driver who uses one of the impacted gas station. Investigators said they found the devices buried inside the outside, credit card kiosks at four different ExxonMobil gas...

First, the Environmental Protection Agency can relax restrictions on the amount of oil in discharged water, currently limited to 15 parts per million. In normal times, this rule sensibly controls the amount of pollution that can be added to relatively clean ocean water. But this is not a normal time. Various skimmers and tankers (some of them very large) are available that could eliminate most of the oil from seawater, discharging the mostly clean water while storing the oil onboard. While this would clean vast amounts of water efficiently, the EPA is unwilling to grant a temporary waiver of its...

We have discussed at some length on The Hayride the fact that Environmental Protection Agency rules on maritime water discharge forbid the release of anything containing more than 15 parts per million of oil. On Monday, in fact, as we discussed the top seven examples of federal idiocy in the oil spill response, the application of this EPA regulation – designed to prevent oil from being added to water, rather than efforts to remove it – to the Gulf spill response was the worst of those examples. As it happens, the best way to handle an oil spill is a...

At issue are resources for cleaning up oil spills known as skimmers. They have a variety of designs, applications and capacities. But skimmer technology is proven and in daily use around the world. Recognizing large spills need large capacity skimmers, the Market has developed just such products. These products are being offered to the US from all over the world. But the Obama administration refuses to accept them. There are are two basic reasons why, one environmental and one rooted in protectionist labor policy. President Obama cares more about the interests of Labor Unions and Environmentalists than he does everyday...

GULFPORT, Miss. — A morning flight over the Mississippi Sound showed long, wide ribbons of orange-colored oil for as far as the eye could see and acres of both heavy and light sheen moving into the Sound between the barrier islands. What was missing was any sign of skimming operations from Horn Island to Pass Christian. U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor got off the flight angry. "It’s criminal what’s going on out there," Taylor said minutes later. "This doesn’t have to happen.” A scientist onboard, Mike Carron with the Northern Gulf Institute, said with this scenario,

Here is video of Florida GOP Sen. George LeMieux speaking on the Senate Floor today, where he blasted the Obama Administration’s response to the Gulf Oil Spill Crisis. He particularly slammed Obama for the fact that there are still only 20 skimmers working off the coast of Florida to keep the oil at bay. This despite the fact LeMieux was told there are 2,000 skimmers available in the U.S. alone, in addition to international offers of help with skimmers. LeMieux said he was told only 20 skimmers were in use to contain the massive Gulf Oil Spill because others may...

At most times and in some circumstances presidential speeches carry weight far beyond the actual words spoken or written. A President’s verbal gaff can start a war, rather than prevent one. A slight mistake by a President can cause American, or even international, markets to collapse, rather than stabilize.

The U.S. Government has apparently reconsidered a Dutch offer to supply 4 oil skimmers. These are large arms that are attached to oil tankers that pump oil and water from the surface of the ocean into the tanker. Water pumped into the tanker will settle to the bottom of the tanker and is then pumped back into the ocean to make room for more oil. Each system will collect 5,000 tons of oil each day. One ton of oil is about 7.3 barrels. 5,000 tons per day is 36,500 barrels per day. 4 skimmers have a capacity of 146,000 barrels...

Pictured below (see pics at link) is what’s known as a skimmer, or a device made to be affixed to the mouth of an ATM and secretly swipe credit and debit card information when bank customers slip their cards into the machines to pull out money. Skimmers have been around for years, of course, but thieves are constantly improving them, and the device pictured below is a perfect example of that evolution. This particular skimmer was found Dec. 6, 2009, attached to the front of a Citibank ATM in Woodland Hills, Calif. Would you have been able to spot this?...
