  • VICTOR JOECKS: Signature verification is a joke. Here’s how I beat the system

The county’s signature verification process didn’t work. The county flagged only my ballot — the most obvious signature that didn’t match. But the other ballots, featuring printed names and signatures that didn’t match those on file, all went through. In contrast, the county’s process for “curing” my signature worked well. It required me to submit photo ID proving I was who I claimed to be.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An effort to recall Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers has failed, the recall’s organizer told supporters on Monday. Misty Polewczynski, of Burlington, posted on the “Recall Evers Petition” Facebook page on Monday that not enough signatures were collected. She did not say how close the group came to collecting the nearly 670,000 needed signatures and she did not immediately return a message seeking comment. “It is with a heavy heart we announce that after proofing and what came in over the weekend, we have fallen short,” she posted to the group that has 80,000 followers. “We...

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled unanimously Friday on a key concern surrounding an avalanche of mail-in ballots in the presidential battleground state, prohibiting counties from rejecting ballots because the voter’s signature on it may not resemble their signature on their registration form. Two Republican justices joined five Democratic justices in the decision. The verdict was a victory for the state’s top election official, Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat who had asked the court to back her up in a legal dispute with President Donald Trump’s campaign and Republican lawmakers.

Remember the Democratic firm that said Donald Trump could have a huge lead on election night that will end with Joe Biden beating him due to mail-in ballots? Well, Pennsylvania just made that scheme easier by trashing the voter signature provision. Counties in the Keystone State were told they can’t reject a ballot over an election official’s objections regarding signatures. Sounds like it’s a situation that is ripe for fraud (via AP): With concerns rising in Pennsylvania that tens of thousands of mail-in ballots will be discarded in the presidential election over technicalities, officials in the presidential battleground told counties...

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — With concerns rising in Pennsylvania that tens of thousands of mail-in ballots will be discarded in the presidential election over technicalities, officials in the presidential battleground told counties they aren’t allowed to reject a ballot solely because an election official believes a signature doesn’t match the one in the voter’s file. The new guidance from Pennsylvania’s Department of State — that state law does not allow counties to set aside mail-in ballots based on their signature analysis — prompted the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh to drop a...

Two citizens campaigns to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida are headed in opposite directions, with one contending it’s close to getting on the 2020 ballot and the other saying it’s unlikely to get the needed signatures in time. Make It Legal Florida, backed and financed by the medical marijuana industry, has gathered close to 600,000 signatures, chairman Nick Hansen said Tuesday. That would be more than 75% of the 766,200 needed to get on the ballot in November 2020, though only about 119,000 had been verified Tuesday. But Karen Goldstein, vice-chair of Regulate Florida, which backs more sweeping legal marijuana...

ALT LAKE CITY — A new rule could kick out Mitt Romney and other candidates from their Utah Republican Party memberships. The Utah Republican Party is trying to decide who can be part of the organization. Under a new bylaw passed Saturday, Feb. 24, any Republican candidate who accepts signatures while on route to the primary election, will lose their party membership. Utahpolicy.com reports the central committee backed the change, while party chairman Rob Anderson opposed. The committee adopted one set of rules for the 1st and 2nd U.S House districts and a separate set of rules for the 3rd...

Known for his insightful take on politics, journalist and author Thomas Wictor believes Judge Roy Moore’s signature in Gloria Allred accuser Beverly Young Nelson’s yearbook is a forgery. The sevens in 1977 to the right of “Christmas,” are very different from the sevens in the date (12-22-77) above “Old Hickory House.” “Look at the two versions of the number “7,” tweeted Wictor. “”12-22-77” and “Olde Hickory House” were written by a different person,” he added. Next, Wictor points out “the “R” and “y” in “Roy,”” are not written the same way.   The inflection of the “Y” is more pronounced in...

see what happens when they run out of beer: Venezuela's opposition said it delivered 1.85 million signatures to the country's elections authority on Monday as part of the process of seeking a recall referendum against President Nicolas Maduro. Food and medicine shortages, triple-digit inflation, rampant violent crime and increasingly frequent water and power cuts have stoked anger against Maduro. The Democratic Unity coalition (MUD) gathered far more than the required 1 percent of voters' signatures, or nearly 200,000, needed to trigger the next phase of a recall referendum. "With this successful strategy the MUD has progressed in achieving urgent political...

A couple days ago we reported that team Kasich was facing a court challenge to their ballot access in Pennsylvania. Specifically, the plaintiff in the case alleged that Team Kasich failed to file the required 2,000 valid signatures to appear on the ballot in Pennsylvania. The Kasich campaign filed 2,184 signatures, but the plaintiff alleged that well over 184 of those signatures were invalid and/or fraudulent for a whole host of reasons.

A morning visit from Secretary of State Scott Gessler on Election Day prompted a last-minute change to the ballot verification process at the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office. Gessler arrived at the Boulder office, 1750 33rd St., around 10:30 a.m. and had a closed-door meeting with Clerk Hillary Hall. His visit followed complaints from Boulder County Republicans that their party was not equally represented on bipartisan election judge teams, and a lawsuit filed — and dismissed — Monday alleging deficiencies in the oversight of ballot signature verification in the county. ...

Maryland’s highest court rejected an appeal Friday by state Democrats who were hoping to block a referendum on the state’s new congressional map. The Maryland Court of Appeals filed an order upholding the state Board of Elections‘ decision to hold a November referendum on the map after it received signatures from more than 59,000 registered voters hoping to get it put on the ballot. The Maryland Democratic Party sued the board this summer, alleging that it erroneously validated thousands of signatures that were collected using the website MDPetitions.com. ANNAPOLIS — Organizers of a petition against Maryland’s same-sex marriage law have collected enough valid voter signatures to send the law to a November referendum, state election officials said Thursday. The state Board of Elections announced that local elections boards have verified 70,039 signatures on the petition to force a statewide vote on the law — exceeding the 55,736 signatures that were required to be turned in by June 30. The Maryland Marriage Alliance has led the petition effort against the law, which was passed in February by the General Assembly. The group says it submitted more than 122,000 signatures...

Madison - State election officials say they likely will need extra time to review recall signatures even though Gov. Scott Walker has said he will not challenge the petitions against him - a move that would give Walker more time to raise unlimited sums of money. Meanwhile, Republican legislators groused Wednesday that the Government Accountability Board was not doing a thorough enough analysis of the signatures even as it was asking them for $975,000 to do its work. "It just seems like they are doing the bare minimum but not enough to instill confidence in the system," said Rep. Robin...

The Republican leader of the state Senate said Friday he expects recall elections to proceed against three of his colleagues, despite challenges they made to thousands of signatures on petitions seeking their ouster from office. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he is hopeful, though, that his election can be blocked through the challenges he made to the Government Accountability Board on Thursday. As for the others, Fitzgerald said, "They're not even close." Fitzgerald was the only one of the four who clearly challenged more than enough signatures to void an election. But whether to reject the signatures is up to...

MADISON — The numbers don’t add up, and Wisconsin’s elections watchdog can’t explain it. A third-party analysis of petition signatures in recall campaigns lodged against four Republicansenators found large disparities between the number of signatures claimed by recall committees and the signature count scanned and made public by the Government Accountability Board, or GAB. That means one of two things, said Mark Antill, executive director of TruetheVote.org, a nonprofit aligned with the tea party that advocates for election integrity. Either the campaigns inflated the number of signatures or the GAB, which oversees the state’s campaign finance, elections, ethics and lobbying...

Madison - A Dane County judge on Wednesday doubled the amount of time state election officials could have to review an unprecedented number of recall signatures filed against Gov. Scott Walker and five other Republicans. That will give the Government Accountability Board 61 days instead of 31 days to examine the petitions and determine whether recall elections should be held this summer. Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess also granted the Republicans more time to challenge the signatures. Their challenges will be due next month, and the accountability board will take those challenges into account as it determines whether recall...

I signed up a while ago to help verify the signatures on the recall petition against Scott Walker of WI. I just received an email asking me to download a program so that I may help. Problem is, I'm afraid to download ANYTHING. I put nothing against these b@st@rds to scr&w us, so I am hesitant about downloading the program. I tried to contact the office and of course no one was available to speak to, so I left a message. I am eager to help Gov. Walker out, which is the reason for this vanity post of mine. Has...
