LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The retired space shuttle Endeavour is scheduled to arrive Sept. 20 at Los Angeles International Airport, where it will remain until Oct. 13, when it makes what is expected to be a celebratory 12-mile procession along city streets to the California Science Center. The vast Sahara Desert can be seen in impressive detail through the array of seven windows more than 200miles above Earth. Two astronauts from the US space shuttle Endeavour successfully completed the first phase of installing a new observation deck on the International Space Station Friday, NASA said. A giant robot arm hoisted the Tranquility node and cupola from the shuttle Endeavour's payload bay onto the ISS. The two spacewalkers then completed the first phase of attaching the structure -- built for NASA by the European group Thales Alenia Space in their Turin factory -- onto the orbiting space station.

Shuttle streaks toward Earth to end mission CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida - Space shuttle Endeavour and its crew are headed back to Earth. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., July 16 (Reuters) - NASA will suspend flights of its space shuttle fleet until it understands why strips of insulating foam peeled off the fuel tank used by shuttle Endeavour, officials said on Thursday.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — As the space shuttle Endeavour lifted off into orbit Monday evening, several pieces of debris fell off the external fuel tank and at least one hit the orbiter.
