SHREVEPORT, La. - The voters have spoken, and Henry Whitehorn will be taking over the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office this summer. He'll be the first African American to hold the position. It was well into Sunday morning before all of the votes were counted, the last batch being absentee votes. Whitehorn beat John Nickelson with 53 percent of the votes. According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office, the unofficial numbers are Whitehorn with 34,752 votes and Nickelson with 30,487. Voter turnout was 42 percent. Both Whitehorn and Nickelson addressed supporters at their watch parties. Candidates John Nickelson and Henry...

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A state representative will introduce a bill before the Louisiana Legislature that could establish gold and silver as the state’s currency. Generations have passed since legal tender was last created in the state of Louisiana, but Representative Raymond Crews, a pro-gun, pro-life, combat veteran Republican from District 8, is submitting HB 714 for consideration. If passed, the bill will once again establish gold and silver as currency in the state. Prior to its closure, the U.S. Mint in New Orleans stamped more than 427 million gold and silver coins. The last time it minted coins was...

Caddo Parish, Louisiana – It turns out that voting can make a difference even when you are dead. This is especially the case if there is no paper trail ensuring election results are accurate. Democrat Henry Whitehorn and Republican John Nickelson faced off in a November 18 election to determine who would become the next Caddo Parish sheriff. The final results showed the candidates separated by just a single vote out of more than 43,000 cast and Whitehorn was declared the winner. Nicholson rightfully requested a recount to respect the “will of the people.” This extraordinarily narrow margin absolutely requires...

Louisiana fathers are taking matters into their own hands after repeated violence broke out in one school, where 23 students were arrested over just a three-day period. "We're dads. We decided the best people who can take care of our kids are who? Are us," father Michael LaFitte told CBS News. LaFitte launched a group called Dads on Duty, sparking 40 fathers to sign up and take shifts at Southwood High School in Shreveport to maintain a peaceful environment... "I immediately felt a form of safety," one of the students said. "We stopped fighting; people started going to class." "You...

They formed Dads on Duty — a group of about 40 dads who take shifts spending time at the school in Shreveport, Louisiana... ..."I immediately felt a form of safety," one of the students said. ..."You ever heard of 'a look?'" one student asked while describing a "power" they claimed all dads have...

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Approximately 80 Haitian immigrants were dropped off in the city Thursday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and local officials are warning there may be more busloads to come. The influx of immigrants came in two waves to the SporTran Intermodal Terminal at Texas and Murphy Streets in downtown Shreveport, according to a SporTran official who did not want to be identified. ICE confirmed the arrival of two buses. But the influx came with apparently little or no warning to City of Shreveport government and law enforcement officials. Marquel Sennet, spokeswoman for Mayor Adrian Perkins, said...

The Louisiana Legislature voted overwhelmingly Thursday to move approximately $300 million annually from a fund that pays for higher education and health care to a fund that pays for large transportation projects. Supporters have said the spending will not only improve the state’s infrastructure system, but that it will also create construction jobs. Critics are concerned the proposal would exacerbate an already expected budget deficit in July 2025 affecting state universities, hospitals and other health care programs. Gov. John Bel Edwards needs to sign the legislation for it to become law. Edwards hasn’t decided if he approves of the bill...

(CNN) — Njeri Camara, 61, can’t visit the Shreveport, Louisiana home where she was born. Like many Black homes and neighborhoods across the country in the 1960s, it was bulldozed to clear space for highways. Camara says her parents moved when she was a baby to another Shreveport neighborhood, Allendale, where she still lives. But now her current home is at risk of being bulldozed so that a second highway, Interstate 49, can connect directly through the city. The Shreveport leaders who want to trade Camara’s home for a highway are embracing a Dwight Eisenhower-era belief in the almighty good...

SHREVEPORT La. -- Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and City Councilman Grayson Boucher say they confirmed that Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins pulled city police resources out of assisting with security for President Trump's rally for GOP gubernatorial candidate Eddie Rispone. And they say it left the U.S. Secret Service in a lurch. Boucher said after an SPD officer informed him on Wednesday morning, he sought confirmation outside the SPD. "I was told by several members of law enforcement that this was true. That at about four o'clock yesterday afternoon, the mayor contacted the Secret Service and said we would no longer...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK) A California automotive start-up is hoping their prototype supercar will redefine car manufacturing. The sleek race car dubbed 'Blade' didn't come off an assembly line - but out of a 3D printer. Kevin Czinger of Divergent Microfactories has spent most of his career in the automotive industry. One day he realized that no matter how fuel-efficient or how few tailpipe emissions the modern car has, the business of car manufacturing is destroying the environment. "3D printing of metal radically changes that. By looking at 3D printing not for that overall structure but to create individual modular structures that can...

Are you thinking about buying a new fuel efficient car but are wary of hybrid technology? Fear not! There are dozens of cars on the market today that deliver great fuel economy without resorting to heavy and expensive battery packs. While most of these vehicles are designed to run on petroleum products (either conventional gasoline or diesel fuel), the Ford Focus SFE is a FlexFuel vehicle that can run on 100% domestic E85 ethanol fuel as well as conventional unleaded gasoline. 2014 Ford Focus five-door E85 holds a significant price advantage over regular unleaded gas in some parts of the...

Congress has approved a measure that will allow makers of three-wheel cars to receive funding for fuel-efficient auto technologies, according to published reports. The bill, which still needs to be signed into law, could be a boost to companies developing alternative car designs, notably Aptera Motors and Elio Motors. Both companies have argued that their three-wheel cars deserve federal funding meant to promote more efficient vehicles. The legislation, passed late last week, would overturn an Energy Department rule that limited funding to four-wheel vehicles meeting emissions and fuel-economy benchmarks, Automotive News reported on Friday. The new guidelines will now allow...
