In a follow-up to Friday’s report on two military installations destroying expended ammunition brass for scrap metal sales rather than making it available to the commercial reload market, the Fort McCoy public affairs office today sent Gun Rights Examiner a copy of a June 23, 2011 memorandum from Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter on “Department of Defense (DoD) Implementing Guidance for the Commercial Sale of Expended Small Arms Cartridge Cases (ESACC).” “The attached guidance reconciles [the Ike Skelton National Defense Authorization Act] with other applicable provisions, including … the Department of Defense Appropriations Act … which restricted funds...

Republicans are likely to urge the Obama administration not to shred documents as they transition to the House majority.

Before the election, GOP officials on Capitol Hill privately discussed the issue but refrained from publicly tackling it, not wanting to assume what would happen on Election Day.

Now that Republicans will control the House, the shredding matter will move front and center.

The cure that was arranged by Montana Senators Baucus and Tester to fix the intended military destruction of once-fired cartridge brass last year appears to be suffering from a fatal end-run. Interested persons will remember that a year ago, helpful intervention by Montana's senators persuaded the Department of Defense to rescind a fresh DoD directive to military installation commanders requiring them to destroy once-fired brass, prior to selling it at auction into the civilian marketplace for ammunition reloading and other purposes. An end-run is being done around the rescinding order through quiet and sweetheart side deals with installation commanders that...

A London school attended by the children of notorious hate preachers was forced to shred 2,000 textbooks used to poison pupils' minds after a public outcry, an employment tribunal has heard. Colin Cook, who formerly taught English at the King Fahad Academy in Acton, told a tribunal how pupils as young as five were taught from Arabic textbooks describing Jews as " monkeys" and Christians as "pigs". Under public pressure the academy agreed to destroy the books - but not before photocopying them for future use, he told the Watford tribunal. He also claimed that headteacher Dr Sumaya Alyusuf had...

BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco has asked for more time to deliver documents to congressional committees about her office's role in Hurricane Katrina preparations and emergency response to the storm. The delay would mean it could be December before internal documents reflecting what was going on behind the scenes are made public. "They have asked for the kitchen sink, which is OK," said Blanco executive counsel Terry Ryder. "But given the fact that we are dealing with Katrina and Rita right now, we have asked for 90 days more." Blanco got a request for information on Sept. 30 from...

We Came, We Saw, We Shredded Here’s a very creative and perfectly legal way to turn the tables on the anti-war protesters, from a group of LGF readers in Columbia, Missouri: Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honor for the majority of people. For a select few, those committed to a “peace at any price” world-view, Memorial Day is a day to protest war, warriors and to hand out printed propaganda. This year in Columbia Missouri, at the Air Show and the Memorial Day Parade the “Peace at any price” propaganda ended up in shreds – literally. By...

Do you shred? If not, get ready to. You've heard about shredding. You understand that it's probably a good idea to shred any receipts that have your credit card numbers or other personal information on them to stop identity theft. You may have seen shredders at the office or noticed bulging trash bags of thin paper strips in the dumpster when you're walking the dog past a local business at night. But now there's a law with a provision going into effect this summer that says if you employ even one person - a nanny, a yard man - and...

TAMPA - Original court documents relating to searches conducted in 1995 on Sami Al- Arian's home and office have been mistakenly destroyed by court employees. The documents were requested by Al-Arian's defense attorneys as part of the pretrial exchange of information in Al- Arian's upcoming trial on terrorism-related charges. It is unclear what effect the shredding will have on the case. The defense could ask the court to prevent prosecutors from using as evidence anything seized as a result of the warrants. ``I just don't know how this is going to play out,'' defense attorney William B. Moffitt said. ``I'm...

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Two workers in Orange County, Calif., have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of shredding thousands of documents at an INS office. Dawn Randall and Leonel Salazar were indicted on one count of conspiracy and five counts of willfully destroying documents. The indictment alleges Randall, a file room manager, ordered Salazar and other employees last February to shred unprocessed documents after the office had discovered a 90,000-document backlog. Prosecutors say a month after the shredding began, the backlog dropped to zero. Prosecutors believe the papers were shredded at night to avoid detection. The...
