SIERRA VISTA — A Border Tea Party Rally will be held close to the fence separating the U.S. from Mexico. The Sunday event on private property will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a stage 60 feet from the border. A number of speakers will talk about border security, including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose roundups of illegal immigrants have angered civil rights groups. Also scheduled to speak is Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever and Arizona State Sen. Russell Pearce, one of the architects of Senate Bill 1070 calling for Arizona law enforcement agencies to question individuals...

I’m riding to Lindbergh Field with Joe Arpaio. “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” a title that makes him seem like a circus act, is telling about the time he was tipped that people “were drinking cat’s blood in a section of Phoenix and nobody would do anything. At the same time the inmates were destroying the plumbing in the jail.” Arpaio started up an animal-cruelty unit — five detectives (“nobody else has that”) — and placed abused cats and dogs into air-conditioned jail cells where they enjoy meals that cost twice as much as the unseasoned food (no pepper or salt allowed)...

If a Republican president were demonizing the state of Arizona as the Obama administration has been, then the "mainstream" media would surely be wondering: Has the president helped create a climate of hatred, fear and anger that might endanger people? Such as, oh, inspiring death threats against Arizona law enforcement officers? They won't begin to suggest that, of course -- not with a Democrat in the Oval Office, especially one that the evidence shows the media actively tried to get elected. But no doubt emboldened by the administration's attacks on our own state of Arizona, a Mexican drug cartel has...

NASHUA - Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will speak at a Sept. 12 Republican fundraiser on his efforts to give local authorities power to enforce immigration laws. Arpaio is known for pushing the bounds for how local law enforcement agencies can confront illegal immigration. He said last week he plans to house illegal immigrants convicted under Arizona’s new immigration law in tents in the desert. About 1,300 U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants are serving time in Arpaio’s tents for convictions for theft, domestic violence, drunken driving, identity theft, human smuggling and other crimes. The sheriff’s office has housed inmates in canvas...

By: Adrian Courtenay Thomas Perez U.S. Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez warned attorneys for Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in Arizona, in a letter dated August 3, that unless Arpaio voluntarily cooperates by August 17 with an investigation by the Justice Department’s civil rights division into allegations that Arpaio’s office has engaged in “unlawful searches and seizures, discriminatory police conduct, and failure to provide basic services to individuals with limited English proficiency,” the Justice Dept. “will file a Title VI civil action to compel access to the requested documents, facilities and personnel.”GSN described Arpaio’s...

A newspaper’s investigation shows some members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors spent lavishly using publicly financed county-issued credit cards. The Arizona Republic reported Monday that supervisors spent money on gifts for constituents and employees, trips, luxury hotels and catered meals. Supervisor Fulton Brock was the biggest spender, racking up $64,344 in charges. Brock spent $4,300 on ads celebrating Flag Day, and promoting hazardous waste collection and other events. The ads featured Brock’s portrait. When questioned about the expenses, Brock told the Republic he planned to destroy his county-issued credit cards and instead buy items only with purchase orders...

He's been at the center of the discussions and controversies surrounding illegal immigration enforcement in Arizona for quite a while. On the day parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there's a price on his head - allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel. The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear. "It's offering a million dollars for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's head and offering a thousand dollars for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel." A man who...

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 people in a crime and immigration sweep Thursday and Friday, and six are suspected to be illegal immigrants. Everyone arrested was stopped for traffic violations. The six suspected illegal immigrants were arrested on charges of failure to provide identification and will be turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be deported. The arrests came as about 180 deputies and trained sheriff's volunteers fanned out across metropolitan Phoenix on Thursday and Friday targeting traffic violators who may also be illegal immigrants. It was the 17th such sweep conducted by the office. The...

Fox Phoenix is reporting that a Mexican Drug Cartel allegedly placed a $1 Million hit on Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona. You may ask, "Name one single reason a bunch of drug pushers in Mexico could possibly have to give a rip about anything some sherrif in Arizona is doing?" Well, for starters, the million dollar bounty was announced on the very day that portions of SB 1070 (Arizona's immigration law) went into effect, Sheriff Arpaio, and may be no other sheriff in the state of Arizona more eager to arrest illegals--especially those employed by drug cartels--than Sheriff...

PHOENIX -- Groups opposed to Arizona's tough new immigration law are planning some ``civil disobedience'' on July 29, the day the legislation takes effect. The leaders of the groups say they'll hold a candlelight vigil at the state Capitol in downtown Phoenix, march to a nearby church at 4:30 a.m. for a nondenominational service and then march to the federal courthouse in Phoenix. They declined to describe what the ``civil disobedience'' would be, but emphasized it will be nonviolent. Alfredo Gutierrez, organizer with the group Somos America, characterized the protests as acts of defiance and hope for the Hispanic community....

Sherfiff Joe Arpaio has proved highly popular with voters, and other states are now following his leadBehind Arizona's new immigration law SB 1070 stands the figure of the law enforcement officer who styles himself "America's toughest sheriff". The law amounts to a state-wide extension of the war on illegal immigration that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been waging in Phoenix.Arpaio is in charge of policing Maricopa County, which covers the city and which has about half of the state's 500,000 undocumented immigrants. Since 1992, when he was first elected to the post, he has gained a reputation for being a media-savvy...

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will start enforcing the state’s new immigration law the minute it goes into effect next month. The new law gives police more authority to question and detain people they suspect of being illegal immigrants. It is slated to go into effect July 29 though could be delayed by court challenges. “When this law takes effect on July 29 I will immediately conduct an operation where deputies will use the new law as another tool for them to enforce illegal immigration law. I plan on booking violators of the new law into the county...

PHOENIX (AP) - Sheriff's deputies raided two Sizzler steak house restaurants in Phoenix, arresting nine employees who are suspected of being illegal immigrants and using fraudulent documents to get jobs.
