(CNSNews.com) - With the city of San Francisco still handing out marriage licenses to homosexual couples, allegedly in violation of the state constitution, a statewide voter-passed referendum and court order, there is growing pressure for the state's elected officials to get involved. But as of Thursday, a spokeswoman for California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said the governor was still content to let the issue play out in the courts. "[Schwarzenegger] continues to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. And with regard to what is going on in San Francisco, he is hoping that the...

San Fran Sues Calif. Over WeddingsSAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 19, 2004 After sanctioning more than 2,700 gay marriages in the past week, the city said Thursday it is suing the state of California, challenging its ban on same-sex marriages on constitutional grounds. City Attorney Dennis Herrera planned to file the suit in the afternoon, said his spokesman, Matt Dorsey. Two judges already are considering challenges from conservative groups seeking to halt the marriage spree that began last Thursday. The city's lawsuit asks that those cases be consolidated into one case. The city is asking Superior Court Judge James Warren to...

Homosexual 'marriage': The truth is on the form Posted: February 20, 20041:00 a.m. Eastern © 2004 WorldNetDaily.com America has held its collective breath and gasped for most of the last week. What is happening in San Francisco is utter lawlessness and the country can see it. The fact that circuit and appellate court judges have refused to stop it, is also a disturbing and telling sign. It does not take an infinite amount of legal knowledge to see plainly that California in 2000 passed Proposition 22. It was a referendum by the voters of that state that legally declared that "marriage shall...

<p>Officials in San Francisco are engaged in an act of civil disobedience of stunning hubris. Buoyed by a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling that ordered the state's legislature to allow homosexuals to marry, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom last week ordered city officials to begin issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples, in open contravention of state law. In the first four days, the city issued more than 2,000 such licenses.</p>

Defiant San Francisco sued the state of California claiming that laws barring the city from marrying same-sex couples are invalid and unenforceable. The suit is the latest twist in the explosive saga of the free-wheeling US city's move a week ago to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, despite California state laws allowing only one man and one woman to marry. More than 2,800 same-sex couples have been officially wed since Mayor Gavin Newsom launched his hotly-contested campaign of civil disobedience to challenge what he says are unconstitutional and discriminatory statutes. "The rights afforded by California's Constitution clearly trump laws...

To: Califonia Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco has violated California law by Marrying Same-sex couples in San Francisco. It is patently unlawful to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples. Section 308.5 of the California Family Code plainly defines a valid marriage as being limited to one man and one woman. Furthermore, California Penal Code section 115 prohibits the knowing procurement of any false or forged instrument to be filed or recorded in any public office, making such an act a felony punishable by up to three (3) years in prison. The Mayor of San Francisco is...

Ladies and gentlemen, let me set this up by saying that many of you I know are beside yourselves. You cannot believe what is happening to our culture; you cannot believe what's happening to the country; you can't believe that the law can be so wantonly violated and nobody stand up and do anything about it. This is a political movement that's taking place, this is a political issue, it's not a civil rights issue, it's not a legal issue, well, it's a legal issue but that's not the predominant manner in which it's being played out. It's being played...

Los Angeles, CA-- It's been two years since male models Steve and Mark applied for a marriage license in Los Angeles county and were told by the county clerk that their application could not be accepted. "She actually laughed in our faces and thought it was a joke," says Steve, a 6'3" muscular 24 year old. "I told her she was a fat cow," Mark adds, smiling. Mark and Steve, who have been living together in a charming tudor style cottage on Coldwater Canyon for the past five years now find themselves facing down the system once again. "We are...

Prominent Democrats question S.F. nuptials BOXER, GAY LAWMAKER DISAGREE WITH MAYOR'S DECISION For a week, the parade of gay couples lining up to marry at San Francisco City Hall has resonated as a love story, a civil-rights struggle, a morality play and a legal tussle. (SNIP) But the biggest surprise of the day came from U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, seeking her third term this fall and long a champion of gay rights, who publicly stated that she does not believe in changing state law to allow for the recognition of same-sex marriage. (SNIP) Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, a...

I was listening to the radio a short while ago, and talk show host Tom Sullivan of 1530 KFBK, Sacramento mentioned at the top of his show that San Francisco Superior Court Judge James Warren (who refused to hear one of the gay wedding suits because of a misplaced semicolon) is himself homosexual. He was outed in San Francisco Magazine in 2002 when covering the trial regarding the pit bull mauling death of a lesbian, over which Warren presided. In that case, he threw out the jury verdict of 2nd Degree Murder for the dog's owner and substituted his own.

<p>The California state agency that records marriages said yesterday that forms that have been altered, which San Francisco has done on its homosexual "marriage" licenses, will not be registered.</p>
<p>California has a standard application form for marriage licenses, "and if it has been altered in any way, then it will not be registered and recorded. It will be sent back to the county of origin," said Nicole Evans, spokeswoman for Kim Belshe, the California Health and Human Services secretary.</p>

The legality of same-sex marriages in San Francisco has a missing persons' problem of sorts – the lack of a "bride" and "groom." A state official says California will not accept thousands of marriage licenses granted to homosexual couples because the city changed the language on the official applications to delete the gender-specific terms. "There is a statewide form that every county has to use for marriage applications," Nicole Kasabian Evans, a spokeswoman for California Health and Human Services, told Reuters. "If we receive application forms that are different from the single form used throughout the state, we will not...

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California will not accept the marriage licenses granted to thousands of same-sex couples in San Francisco because the city created its own form to remove such terms as "bride" and "groom," a state official said on Wednesday. "There is a statewide form that every county has to use for marriage applications. If we receive application forms that are different from the single form used throughout the state, we will not accept them," said Nicole Kasabian Evans, a spokeswoman for the Health and Human Services Agency. Meanwhile, President Bush joined a chorus of those opposing San Francisco's...

Since the State of California through the Mayor of San Francisco, city officials, state judges and other state authorities have seen fit to flagrantly violate their own state laws regarding fraudulant marriage licenses, I think it would be prudent if other states passed laws not to recognize ANY California marriage license issued Feb. 12, 2004 or later. San Francisco's fraud does not fall under protection of the full faith and credit clause of the U.S. Constitution, since it is after all, illegal. We'd put some fire under California's feet if other states refused to recognize the legality of their marriage...
