Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl, an Arizona conservative, says he'll vote against Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court. While Kyl's opposition is not a major surprise, he is a key member of the Judiciary Committee, and his "no" vote may encourage other Judiciary Republicans to vote no. Kyl was undecided as early as yesterday. Republicans are privately predicting Sotomayor could get as many as 70 yes votes on her Senate confirmation, but a party line vote out of Judiciary could keep that number a bit lower.
