Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney said when inflation put the squeeze on his family he popped a can of Chef Boyardee – and declared “that’s what families have to do. The House Dems campaign fundraising chief, who is also a five-term incumbent representing the Hudson Valley, gave a glowing endorsement Saturday for Beefaroni and other Chef Boyardee canned pasta products when asked about his plans “to fight inflation.” “Well, I grew up in a family where if the gas price went up, the food price went down, so by this time of the week we’d be eating Chef Boyardee if...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on this week’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” that the Democratic Party would win majorities in the midterm elections. Discussing aid to Ukraine, Capehart asked, “Let me get your reaction really quickly. Do you think that comment which was made by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy about a blank check, is that a disqualifying comment for someone third in line to the presidency?”

Representative Sean Maloney (D-NY), the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that the Democratic Party will keep their majorities in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections. Anchor Jonathan Karl asked, “So you’ve been pretty optimistic all along. You still feeling good about your chances in the House?” Maloney said, “Oh, look, you guys have been writing us off for two years, and we just went to work fixing people’s problems, helping our veterans with healthcare, capping seniors’ out-of-pocket costs in Medicare, taking on big drug companies, passing gun safety legislation, you...

Two key House Democrats will roll out legislation Thursday that would revoke a lifetime pension and other taxpayer-funded perks from former presidents who are convicted of felonies during or after office. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.), who leads the Democrats’ campaign arm, and Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) have authored the Restoring and Enforcing Accountability of Presidents (REAP) Act. It would reform the Former Presidents Act of 1958 by stripping past presidents convicted of felony of their $219,200 annual pension, office space and a budget to pay for staff. The legislation does not impact lifetime Secret Service protection for...
  • DCCC chair: Criticisms on socialism, defund the police are ‘Republican caricature’

Maloney’s remarks reflect an intraparty struggle that plagued Democrats last cycle, when House Democrats expected to expand their majority but instead saw their edge in the chamber narrow dramatically. In the aftermath of the election, some moderate Democrats blamed rhetoric from the party’s progressive wing around socialism and defund the police for the lackluster general election results. Republicans have long sought to make political hay from Democrats’ left flank, working in last year’s election to tie President Joe Biden to progressive lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). That work by the GOP has continued as...

Three members of the National Rifle Association’s board resigned on Thursday August 1, 2019. Concerns about fiscal impropriety and mismanagement motivated the board members to resign from the organization. The three board members — Esther Schneider of Texas, Sean Maloney of Ohio and Timothy Knight of Tennessee — claimed that they were stripped of their committee assignments after they questioned NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre’s spending habits. BLP reported on concerns about LaPierre’s lavish spending a few months ago, which has drawn considerable criticism from members of the gun rights community.

Maloney, who is simultaneously running for reelection in the 18th district and for attorney general in New York, has been credited with starting the "Tampon Lobby" on Capitol Hill and has recently taken up the banner for "menstrual equity." . . . Maloney has suggested women working in the House cannot have "respect and dignity" unless taxpayers pay for their tampons.

Former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth won an initial skirmish against Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney on Tuesday by beating her successor in an Independence Party primary, giving her a third ballot line for their general election fight in November. Unofficial results showed the Republican about 80 votes ahead in the low-turnout contest, in which around 1,400 Independence Party voters went to the polls – around 6 percent of those enrolled in the 18th Congressional District, which includes all of Orange and Putnam counties and parts of Westchester and Dutchess. The state Board of Elections had Hayworth ahead, 729-649.
