Republican Bill Brady holds an eight-point lead over Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn in the four-way race for governor of Illinois. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Brady, a state senator, earning 45% of the vote to Quinn’s 37%. Democrat-turned-independent Scott Lee Cohen gets six percent (6%) support, and Green Party candidate Rich Whitney has the backing of two percent (2%). Another one percent (1%) favors another candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided. Remember the toothless "Coffee Party USA" effort, the astroturf effort created by Obama operative Annabel Park? Remember that supposed "non-partisan" effort to get folks involved in the political debate that was created by Democrat operatives? Yeah, that one. Well, we have another example of that faux "independent" spirit popping up here in Chicago with the choice of a Lt. Gov. running mate made by independent Gubernatorial candidate Scott Lee Cohen. On Monday, Cohen chose Baxter Swilley, his former campaign manager, as his running mate for Lt. Governor. Paradoxically, Cohen said of Swilley, "He wasn't my first choice, but he's the...

Chicago - Scott Lee Cohen announced Monday that he plans to run for governor as an independent. He said he was running because he was "tired of waste and mismanagement." Cohen was pressured to drop out of the race for lieutenant governor after embarassing details surfaced about his personal life, including allegations of abuse from his wife and ex-girlfriend and overdue child support. "I am not perfect, but I am honest," Cohen said. "And Illinois needs more honesty than perfection." A spokesman for House Speaker Michael Madigan says Cohen notified party leaders of his plans to run for governor in...

The Democratic nominee for Illinois lieutenant governor has dropped out of the race less than a week after winning the nomination amid a political uproar about his past. Since then, it has become widely know that he was accused of abusing his ex-wife and holding a knife to the throat of an ex-girlfriend. The girlfriend herself had been charged with prostitution. He also admits using steroids in the past. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, who...

CHICAGO—Illinois Democrats still reeling from last year's corruption scandal around former Gov. Rod Blagojevich pressured their new nominee for lieutenant governor on Friday to step aside as more embarrassing revelations about his past emerged. Scott Lee Cohen, a pawnbroker and political neophyte who pumped $2 million into his campaign, has been responding to charges of domestic abuse, steroid use and adultery since he won the primary for lieutenant governor on Tuesday. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, who won his own primary by less than 1% and is slated to share a ticket with Mr. Cohen, has called on him to withdraw....
