Does anyone have any treatments for sciatica or any recommendations? I have it awful!! Little background- i trained for the Olympics for 10 years (decathlon) and still workout daily, an hour and a half to two hours. A lot of running, swimming, weightlifting. I'm in good shape- great shape for my age. I've had a problem with my left hip which has morphed into sciatica the past six months. It was initially annoying but now its almost debilitating. Had to stop three times on my run this morning. Severe pain is in the lower half of my butt check through...
  • Insulin resistance is linked to over 30 diseases—and to early death in women, finds UK study

Insulin resistance is associated with 31 different diseases, and in women, is also linked to higher odds of early death. This is according to a study of data on hundreds of thousands of people. There is compelling evidence of links between insulin resistance and conditions as diverse as Parkinson's disease, gout and sciatica. Insulin resistance is also a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. To find out more, Ms. Jing Wu and colleagues analyzed data from the UK Biobank. The study involved 429,159 participants. Levels of blood sugar and fats, including cholesterol, were used to calculate each participant's TyG index—a measure...
  • Pulsed radiofrequency with steroid injection brings sciatica relief (10-minute treatment lasts over a year)

Researchers found that a minimally invasive procedure combined with epidural steroid injection treatment led to superior pain reduction and disability improvement over one year in patients with sciatica. The combined treatment performed better than steroid injections alone. Sciatica is pain that originates along the sciatic nerve, which extends from the back of the pelvis down the back of the thigh. When the pain is caused by a lumbar disk herniation, surgery is often the treatment option for pain relief. Minimally invasive interventional therapy has become increasingly popular in patients with sciatica who have become resistant to conservative treatments. Among the...

Have been looking into massage chairs. Anyone able to answer some questions please? 1. What are some good ones and ones to avoid? 2. Does a good chair help with sciatic nerve pain? 3. Why do people sell them if they are so good? 4. Private message me if you know of a good one available in Houston/SA/Austin areas. 5. Any other input on the subject? Thanks in advance.

Some medical advice from Freepers is sorely needed. About two weeks ago I twisted my lower back and the result sciatica. I have been taking 3 200mg of Advil and 2 300 mg Tylenol every six hours plus alternating between an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) and a hot water bottle. I have also been doing some exercises several times a day as recommended by my physical therapist. So here it is Saturday evening and I am in a lot of pain. What is so discouraging was today at about 2 pm for a couple of hours, I was...

I'm in the midst of my first bout with sciatica and would enjoy hearing from any Freepers that have been through it and have some home remedy tips. A bit of background...I've suffered broken bones, had plates and screws and even a bone graft, but the pain from the sciatica matches any of that. It travels across my right buttock, down my thigh, encircles my knees and deadens my leg from the knee down. I can't lie on my back, sitting is difficult. Lying on my left side provides the best relief. The doctor prescribed prednisone for inflammation, tiazidine as...
