BATON ROUGE, La. After Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorneys filed a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court, school officials decided that an immediate course correction was in order. They have now agreed to permit a Christian student to use school buses for a field trip for her One Way Club, just like her classmates in the Arabic Club or the Gay-Straight Alliance can. The Carteret School District is now allowing a Good News Club to meet at the Minue Elementary School after Liberty Counsel sent a letter to the District demanding equal access to the school gymnasium after school. Good News Clubs are sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), an international non-profit organization which sponsors Good News Clubs in all 50 states and in 156 countries. ACLU Puts Texas School on Notice Wednesday, 4 June 2003 SAN ANTONIO, Tx. -- The American Civil Liberties Union demanded on Wednesday that San Antonio's Luther Burbank High School stop its censorship efforts against students who took part in a silent protest last March against anti-gay violence. The ACLU also insisted that the school pledge not to punish students who take part in such actions in the future. <p>In an effort to resolve a gay-rights court battle, a federal judge has asked the American Civil Liberties Union to propose a school club policy for Boyd County — a policy that also could serve as a model for other Kentucky school districts.</p>

The Boyd County School Board in Kentucky has banned all student clubs in the district. That action comes after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened to sue the board if it did not allow a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) group to meet on a high school campus. Christian attorney Scott Lively of the Sacramento-based Pro-Family Law Center had advised Boyd County High School officials to adopt a pro-civility curriculum that addresses issues such as bullying, but also teaches that homosexuality is wrong.
