Who was the better President? Bush 41 or 43? Reason I ask is I posted a thread today about Bush 43 and it got a lot of responses back.. I would say Bush 41 got more done in one term then his son in two terms. End the cold war and Iraq.

3 “For the 28 years that he served as chancellor of Germany, Bismarck preserved what he had built by a restrained and wise diplomacy, which was the single most important element in maintaining the peace of Europe.” – Henry Kissinger Some people complain I never have a good word to say about the United States. That’s not quite true. I am sure if I dig deep enough, I can find a piece or two from a daily column that spans more than a decade where I said something nice. But today, I will change tracks: George H.W. Bush, the 41st...

We think of It's a Wonderful Life as a great American movie, a great Jimmy Stewart movie, a great Frank Capra movie — and, of course, as a great Christmas movie. We don't think of it as a great Italian-American movie. But we should, especially at Christmastime, when Italian-Americans — of Capra's generation and beyond — can be heard in every shop and restaurant singing many of the songs that define the season. Capra was born in Sicily, and at age 6 moved to Los Angeles. It's a Wonderful Life is spiced with subtle but significant references to his fellow...

Cruz picked up essentially the entire Bush clan into his campaign recently.Including, I remind you, one Bush (Neil) that managed to rip off the taxpayer for a billion and a half dollars during the S&L crash, and who did it by giving "loans" to his friends that were uncollectable.  Look up Silverado Savings and Loan out of Denver.  It was one of the big scandals of the time, and that a director, Neil Bush, is now on the Cruz campaign's finance team ought to tell you everything you need to know.Oh, it didn't stop there either.  You might want to look into his connections to...
  • Dwelling House Savings and Loan told to raise capital or face sale, closure

For more than half a century, Dwelling House Savings & Loan has built a sound reputation for providing affordable home mortgages to Pittsburgh residents whose credit risk is too high and assets too low to qualify for a conventional bank loan. Now its own financial survival could be at stake. The federal Office of Thrift Supervision has ordered the venerable savings and loan institution in Pittsburgh's Hill District to raise more capital by the end of June or face the possibility of being sold or shut down. --snip-- According to Dwelling House officers, a substantial amount of the institution's reserve...
  • WSJ: Deposit Insurance Déjà Vu - The $100,000 cap is high enough.

Remember the 1980s savings-and-loan crisis? By the time it had all played out, taxpayers were on the hook for $125 billion. Yet members of Congress who play a central role in regulating the banks seem to be suffering from a severe case of collective amnesia.... That's the only conclusion to be drawn from the recent 413-10 vote in the House of Representatives in favor of legislation that would recreate some of the same perverse conditions that magnified the taxpayer cost of the S&L bailout. The bill would increase federal deposit insurance to $130,000 from $100,000 per account and double the...
