SARASOTA, Fla. — The iconic kissing statue, known as the "Unconditional Surrender" statue, in Sarasota was vandalized less than 24 hours after the passing of the World War II veteran who was identified as the "kissing sailor" in the famous photo that inspired the sculpture. I was waiting for the bus this afternoon and in the parking lot behind me was a 'register-to-vote' bus with county workers setting up a podium and folding chairs. I went to one of the guys looking like they were in charge and asked who was speaking tonight. He told me Kathrine Harris will be there, along with other local politicos.
