On my local talk radio station this morning, 56 WGAN in Portland, Maine, a caller had an interesting point about Operation Chaos. His theory was that politics has turned into another American Idol, and there are large groups of people are voting for either the worst candidate, or the one who will muck up the Democrats the most. That got me thinking; did Barack Seinfeld Obama (the candidate about Nothing) have a love child?

'American Idol' says sayonara to Sanjaya NEW YORK - Sanjaya Malakar, the under-talented but unflappable singer who horrified and captivated millions in his improbable "American Idol" run, was finally voted off the show Wednesday night. When the result was announced, Malakar wiped away tears and got a big hug from LaKisha Jones, the next lowest vote-getter. "I'm fine," he told Ryan Seacrest. "It was an amazing experience." ADVERTISEMENT "I can promise you: We won't soon forget you," Seacrest replied.

Initially I thought Indian Americans are mobilizing as armies of Fanjayas, voting in large numbers to keep the 17-year-old on the show. After all, most other barriers had been broken by the community. They were on Wall Street and on main street, in political parties and Silicon Valley, in government and in management, in hotels and motels, in medicine and in space. They were writers, analysts, advisers and policy makers. Perhaps the one last hurdle was for an Indian American to become a pop icon. When they saw Sanjaya, they felt he had a shot. But as weeks went by...

Sanjaya Malakar, known for his wild hairdos and frequently pitchy singing style, hit a new low tonight on Fox's "American Idol," according to judge Simon Cowell who characterized his performance as the worst ever in the history of the show, now in its sixth season. "That was utterly horrendous," said Cowell. Malakar, 17, known nationally – even internationally – by his first name only, has survived the first several cuts in the program that relies on public voting to eliminate one contestant each week. He has stimulated a national debate, with his own fan base supporting him enthusiastically and others...

It started with the Web site votefortheworst.com, which encourages voters to keep 17-year-old Sanjaya Malakar on the Fox show because his performances -- marked by a weak singing voice that often veers...
