Though the Freedom Caucus is under assault from all sides, some of its members who have spoken to the media or made public statements are standing strong — insisting that they are willing to work with President Trump to keep the GOP’s promise to repeal Obamacare. The media has used the failure of the American Health Care Act — Republican leadership’s phony repeal bill — as an excuse to attack conservatives in Congress. The Tea Party members of the Freedom Caucus, who opposed the legislation on grounds that it would not improve the American health insurance market, have been...

President Trump’s tweet slamming Freedom Caucus this week has a lot of Trump supporters very upset. While conservative talk show hosts spent most of the day Tuesday slamming those who didn’t support the healthcare bill introduced in the house, listeners of those shows almost unanimously called into the shows to defend them. The message to the Freedom Caucus on social media and comments to articles like Dennis Prager’s is pretty clear—Never Give Up and Never Surrender! It is extremely frustrating to see a window of opportunity like we currently have go to waste when we, the people of the United States,...

Rand Paul, a top conservative critic of House Republicans’ failed plan to replace ObamaCare, concluded his golf outing Sunday with President Trump by saying party members are “getting closer” on a compromise repeal plan and that he remains “very optimistic.” The president’s invitation for Paul to play at Trump National Golf Club in northern Virginia is a sign that he is trying again to negotiate with congressional conservatives who failed...

President Trump brought Republican Sen. Rand Paul to Trump National Golf Club in Virginia on Sunday to play golf with him, a little more than a week after the party's healthcare bill failed. "They're discussing a variety of topics, including healthcare," White House deputy press secretary Stephanie Grisham said. Budget director Mick Mulvaney, a former leading House conservative, also joined the two.

When Mitt Romney selected Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, people cheered. He was young, attractive, idealistic, and — doggone it! — he did P90x. Images of him lifting weights bounced across the internet. Surely this is what the GOP needed, they said. New blood. Youth. Strength. The fact that his losing bid against Barack Obama and Joe Biden was the high mark of his career says a great deal about his legacy. His lack of true leadership has grown more and more evident. During the last week, Speaker Ryan's stature managed to shrink in regard to Congress, and...

House Speaker Paul Ryan’s poll rating have slid nationwide after many GOP members rejected his draft Ryancare law. Ryan has a nationwide “favorable” rating of just 39 percent, down from the post-election peak of 46 percent in December, according to a new poll by Rassmussen Reports. The 39 percent support includes 11 percent who view Ryan “very favorably.” Among GOP supporters, Ryan’s popularity now stands at 65 percent favorable and 26 percent unfavorable, down from his December 2016 rating of 73 percent favorable and 21 percent unfavorable.

The establishment media would like Americans to believe that after the implosion of the Ryancare bill there is an unbridgeable rift between conservatives and President Trump, but the facts are quite the opposite. In our article “The Deal Breaker In #Ryancare” we reminded President Trump that in his book The Art of the Deal he offered the following advice about negotiation, “What you should never do is pay too much, even if that means walking away…”. Priebus RyanYesterday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said at his daily briefing, President Trump sensed that he was going to end up with...

Dear Donald, We’ve known each other a long time, so I think I can be blunt. You know how you said at campaign rallies that you did not like being identified as a politician? Don’t worry. No one will ever mistake you for a politician. After this past week, they won’t even mistake you for a top-notch negotiator. I was born here. The first image in my memory bank is the Capitol, all lit up at night. And my primary observation about Washington is this: Unless you’re careful, you end up turning into what you started out scorning. And you,...

White House restarts talks with Freedom Caucus to repeal Obamacare, NYT reports
-
The House Freedom Caucus, composed mostly of more right-wing members of the Republican party, had reportedly made a pact to band together in the recent fight over health care. Based on interviews with numerous insiders, Politico described the pact as requiring that "No member would commit his vote before consulting with the entire group — not even if [President] Trump himself called to ask for an on-the-spot commitment." The site goes on to reveal that the plan, conceived by Ohio Representative Jim Jordan and agreed to by 28 of around 36 Freedom Caucus lawmakers, was put in place "to bind...

It is hard to overestimate the damage the Freedom Caucus has done to the fledgling presidency of Donald Trump, and to the country. By blocking the American Health Care Act of 2017, the conservative group has guaranteed that Americans will struggle forward under the burden of Obamacare. In the next few months insurers will announce their premium hikes for the coming year; chances are, given the continuing withdrawal of major companies from the marketplaces and the ongoing failure of the bill to attract enough young and healthy participants, the new rates will not be pretty. Last year premiums went up...

With control of House, Senate and the Presidency, and with so much that cries out to be done after eight years of Obama inaction and/or mismanagement, Republicans have a golden opportunity to advance their own electoral fortunes by doing well for their country. But all of this is endangered by the fact that their major congressional leader is a man without political instincts, skills, or judgment. It’s unfair to say that he is a RINO, or to question his value to the party as the source of ideas that are sometimes very useful. But it is not unfair to say...

Dick Morris says what I have said for a couple of weeks. Obamacare really has been killed, and no one noticed. Trump told the IRS not to enforce the "individual mandate." That is the essential coercive element. No mandate, no O-care. Morris said he did this last week---in fact, I heard more than four weeks ago that the IRS was NOT enforcing this and just assumed it came from Trump. Second, the requirement that you buy from an "approved" insurance company---Trump waived that as well by telling HHS to approve any policy as "qualifying." Yes, some of the subsidies and...

Did the Freedom Caucus just pull the Republican Party back off the ledge, before it jumped to its death? A case can be made for that. Before the American Health Care Act, aka "Ryancare," was pulled off the House floor Friday, it enjoyed the support -- of 17 percent of Americans. Had it passed, it faced an Antietam in the GOP Senate, and probable defeat. Had it survived there, to be signed by President Trump, it would have meant 14 million Americans losing their health insurance in 2018. First among the losers would have been white working-class folks who delivered...

Everyone knows that a competent lawyer never asks a question in court to which he doesn’t already know the answer. And likewise, a competent political leader never puts a piece of legislation up for a vote without having a good idea of what the vote will be. But when Paul Ryan released his American Health Care Act he evidently had no idea what its reception would be. Whole sections of his own party were angered, and it was obvious that his bill had no chance of passage without truly major changes.

WASHINGTON - Republicans exulted in November when they won the White House and both congressional chambers, promising aggressive moves on health care, taxes and immigration. But a spectacular stumble on the first agenda item amid intra-party squabbles begs the question of whether the party will be able to get anything done if it can’t deliver on a promise it has made for nearly a decade. “We were a 10-year opposition party, where being against things was easy to do,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan, faced with the biggest loss of his career. “And now in three months’ time we tried...

This is absolutely stupid. These long drawn out debates within the GOP struggling to settle on the nitty gritty about what and who should be covered and at what price is ridiculous. It's NOT your job, gentlemen. All you are doing is playing into the socialist democrats hands. Please consult your pocket constitutions and discover that the power to make these decisions regarding health care and insurance, etc, is not an enumerated power and is not delegated by the constitution to the congress or the federal government. It's reserved to the states and the people. Get OUT of it!! Conservatives...

Rep. Dave Brat is my rep. Yesterday, he posted an article to his constituents on his Facebook page. There are a lot of rumors & "who shot John" accusations flying around, but here it is straight from a Freedom Caucus & Conservative mouth as to what happened. There are a lot of terrific comments in this article and it's well worth reading. Personally, Dave Brat speaks for me ...... it was a great day when Eric Cantor was deposed from his self-assumed throne & I am grateful every day for Dave Brat. So far he has acted in the best...

The good news is no one can say President Trump didn’t try to persuade House Republicans that they should pass the American Health Care Act. He invited lawmakers to the White House, dispatched his key aides to Capitol Hill, worked the phones, cajoled, charmed, arm-twisted, threatened . . . He did everything short of actually attempting to understand why House Republicans didn’t want to vote for it. President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan chose to cancel the vote on the AHCA late Friday afternoon. Earlier this week, the loudest argument from Trump was that if House Republicans didn’t pass the...
