. .. .FOOD FOR THOUGHT IF YOU DON’T YET LOVE THE BOOK OF RUTH, please consider this. A “type” is a symbol, where the author intended a character to represent a thing or person. We have three main characters: Naomi, Ruth and Boaz. What or whom does each symbolize?NAOMI: She was a Jew returning from exile in a foreign landRUTH: She was a Gentile, a non-Jew, who was grafted into Naomi's family by marriage and followed Naomi loyally to Israel, worked in Boaz's field (but never worked for him), became Boaz’s bride and bore him childrenBOAZ: He was rich and...

President Donald Trump is closely considering two conservative women to fill Ruth Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court. According to people familiar with the process, one of those potential picks is Barbara Lagoa, a seasoned Florida judge with Cuban roots. Here’s what you need to know about Lagoa: A trailblazer for women and Latinos A Florida native, Lagoa was the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. If nominated to the nation’s high court by Trump and confirmed by the Senate, she would be the second Latino justice to ever serve. Current Justice Sonia Sotomayor became the...

Before she was on the United States Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg supported a U.S. government racial quota plan when she was on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The mainstream media did not tell the public about it. The Democrats and Republicans in Congress did not tell the public about it. Talk-radio hosts did not tell the public about it. As a Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg continued her approval of racial preferences, aka “affirmative action” as described here, here and here.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court justice who was as pioneering as she was brash, died on Friday, the court said. She was 87. The court said Ginsburg, a lifelong champion of women's rights and a fierce advocate for gender equality, died "surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer." Chief Justice John Roberts said: "Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew...

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent non-surgical treatment for a benign gallbladder condition. Bader was treated at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore and is resting comfortably and plans to take part in Wednesday’s teleconference arguments, the court said. The Supreme Court released the following statement: “Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent non-surgical treatment for acute cholecystitis, a benign gallbladder condition, this afternoon at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Following oral arguments on Monday, the Justice underwent outpatient tests at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., that confirmed she was suffering from a gallstone that...

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has declared she is “cancer free,” beating the disease for the fourth time after undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer in the summer. The 86-year-old justice, one of the oldest to serve on the Supreme Court, offered the health update to CNN in an interview in her chambers Tuesday evening. “I’m cancer free. That’s good,” Ginsburg said, with CNN reporting that she was “sounding energized and speaking animatedly.”

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Bryant Johnson says pressure creates diamonds, and I think I just upped the carat level. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s personal trainer did not know that his two other clients on the Supreme Court — Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan — are Jewish, too. Until I told him. “I never thought about it that way,” he says when I tell him that he’s responsible in part for the health of the court’s entire Jewish contingent. Ginsburg is 85, Breyer is 80 and Kagan is a spritely 58. Where Johnson takes the conversation from there is interesting — he says...

**SNIP** Many people wanted to know whether two-time cancer survivor Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the oldest and perhaps the most liberal justice on the Supreme Court, had enough gas in the tank to outlast the Trump presidency, or whether Trump would get a chance to fundamentally alter the balance of the court by replacing her, a possibility he dangled successfully to entice wary Republicans to vote him. **SNIP** Since Trump’s election, Ginsburg’s continued survival has become a matter of severe anxiety for liberals, many of whom pressured her in vain to resign during the Obama years to ensure that a Democrat...

Some Advice from Mother Church, as Pictured in the Book of Ruth Msgr. Charles Pope • August 24, 2017 • Given our brief sampling of the Book of Ruth in daily Mass, perhaps a reflection is in order. The detailed background to the text is too lengthy to go into here, but a few points will help. The story features three main characters: Boaz, Ruth, and Naomi. Boaz is clearly a picture (or “type”) of Christ. He was born and lives in Bethlehem; he ultimately acts as Ruth’s “kinsman-redeemer” by rescuing her from poverty and paying the price so as...
