When I went through ROTC training we were were obviously taught to respect the numerical superiority of the Soviet bloc Armour units deployed across the Iron Curtain. But I remember some of our NCO instructors mentioned that Russian enlisted personnel lacked strong NCO guidance....that they were heavily dependent on top-down leadership. After all these years...this holds true today.

In the medieval era, when a thinker successfully claimed divine revelation, he placed his words beyond dispute. Only the hopelessly benighted or demonically inspired could doubt him. In recent decades, the claim of “science” achieves a similar result. Politicians maintain they “just follow the science” while supportive mass media platforms banish questioners as enemies of science. Pseudoscience never had it so good.

The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill that would strip Russia of normal trade relations with the U.S., in a move that paves the way for higher tariffs on Russian goods. The bill now goes to the Senate. President Joe Biden has backed efforts to change Russia's trade status as one way to punish President Vladimir Putin over the invasion of Ukraine. The vote was 424-8, with all eight "no" votes coming from Republicans.

“There is an absence of history in Washington. Russia “encircled” with “sanctions” to deter war. The Republicans want to escalate into an air war with various ideas for intervention by air to offset Russian air superiority. The Democrats oppose this as a risk of World War Three. The lost history in the media and in Washington is in underestimating Russian resistance and self-sufficient go-it-alone nationalism.
