The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill that would strip Russia of normal trade relations with the U.S., in a move that paves the way for higher tariffs on Russian goods. The bill now goes to the Senate. President Joe Biden has backed efforts to change Russia's trade status as one way to punish President Vladimir Putin over the invasion of Ukraine. The vote was 424-8, with all eight "no" votes coming from Republicans.

Honestly, don’t look too hard. There are 432 of them in there
somewhere. Like this vote or not, there’s plenty of other
reasons.
Good on them.
You'll have the "wrong opinions" in public one of these days, and the bank accounts of you and your family will be frozen.
Better get some cash in the mattress now...
Meanwhile the ChiComs retain (other than the surviving special tariffs that TRUMP laid on) regular trade status. Way to think long term, Congress… the IDIOCRACY lives on.
Eight Republicans voted against the bill: Representatives Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin;
Thomas Massie of Kentucky;
Matt Gaetz of Florida;
Lauren Boebert of Colorado;
Andy Biggs of Arizona;
Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia;
Chip Roy of Texas;
Dan Bishop of North Carolina.
What the heck are Gaetz and Greene thinking?
We should be raising tariffs across the board to bring manufacturing back to the US. Innovation and education are two critical factors in maintaining world power status (Ray Dalio). Whoever has the manufacturing processes has an edge in innovation.
Congress is like a kid trying to protest a high school bully by shooting themselves in the knee.
That is what I call “stupid”.
The Russia haters here won't understand it right up to the moment their bank accounts, phones and Internet get shut off for Wrongthink.
Yes, your average American will be so distressed by the nationwide impact on our borscht and caviar supplies.
“shooting themselves in the knee”...
Then wearing a knee-sympathy ribbon.
Plus, tariffs on WHAT, since we’re boycotting everything of theirs.
You might want to actually take a look at the Russian exports to the US.
There will be a lot of rare materials you have never heard of—just the stuff a lot of critical infrastructure is made of—nothing to see here....
Xenophobia is dangerous for children and other living things.
Stupid is standing in front of that 424-8 train coming at supporters of Putinist Russia. Russia is toxic waste right now.
Better to do this to China. The real culprit.
Buy, yeah, Russia has ‘stepped into it’.
You are right—during the Spanish Inquisition it would have been wiser to confess quickly and skip the torture step...
I am honestly mystified as to how you guys come up with this stuff. I truly don't even know what.you.guys are even saying half the time. Putin is an autocrat - he controls pretty much everything Russia does. So what exactly is the specific thing that the "techno-oligarchs" were going to do to Russia if he hadn't invaded Ukraine?
Agreed Russian Trade I don’t see as the big hill for politicians to die on.
A normalized trade and dropping of sanctions can happen after Putin is removed from power.
Maybe they don’t think we should pile on so much? They’ve seen the intelligence. Too many decisions being made from an emotional viewpoint. All decisions should be militarily so as to not escalate.
I can explain the TechnoDictatorship to you - but I can't understand it for you.
Here's a sample - we would classify this as "blood attainder" under our Constitutional definitions:
Chrystia: "Sorry we froze your bank account, dude - but your third cousin was mouthing off to the government. Maybe you should have snitched him out before it got to this point."
The Russians didn't go all the way in to the "electronic surround". There'll be some pain for a while - but they got that similar pain after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Get some money in your mattress, Marine.

Well, American manufacturing sure as hell hasn’t moved to Russia. We do import some VITAL raw materials from Russia. Hell, let’s increase the cost to our manufacturers of these raw material while the costs to their overseas competitors remain the same. Our representatives are such wise, long-term thinkers…NOT!
That’s right.
Looking at the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it’s so bad that I am convinced it’s AS BAD as the US intelligence failure.
Our intel people are so busy trying to trash Conservatives, and especially Trump, that they couldn’t tell you the cost of a cup of coffee in downtown Moscow...let alone the state of the Russian military!!
