Thank you RoosterRedux ! Five years after that evil car ran me and the bicycle down, my shoulders and upper body feel better than ever. Even my thumbs that had been broken are much improved. I've been on a bicycle, rollers and spinning, all this time and not much else since the accident. The first three months doing moderate 5K &10k s most days and making friends with the beast. Having only cycled since my accident in 2012, just light therapy and range of motion upper body, I felt three months plus seemed like a good number for muscle recruitment....

With their sleek aesthetics, club-inspired music, and cult-like followings, cycling studios have been on top of the trendy boutique fitness totem pole for the better part of the last decade, led by grapefruit-smelling, feel-good-mantra-spouting SoulCycle (which people seem to either love or hate). Competitors such as Flywheel and Peloton have tried to knock Soul off its throne, but there's a whole new game-changer beginning to take over the world of sweaty, sexy group workouts: indoor rowing. That's right, the machine that everyone ignores at the gym, the same old one collecting dust in your grandpa's basement, is poised to be...

Quick (no web searching!), who was the 2016 NCAA Division I women's basketball champion? (Don't tell me that your office didn't do a women’s NCAA tournament bracket contest!) Okay, given that they've (UConn) won it four times in-a-row, that's too easy. Let's try again: Who was the last (2015) WNBA champion? (Hint: They've won it four of the last five seasons.) Don't feel bad, I didn’t know either, and twice in their recent five-year championship run they defeated the team from my home state in the championship series. Even better: Can you name five WNBA teams? How about five WNBA...

Is Rowing Only for the Rich? A Henley Winner Weighs In. Aug 14th, 2015 | Categories: Jared Paul Stern, Sports | by Jared Paul Stern Our recent report on the Henley Royal Regatta sparked a serious debate about class and style. One commenter’s position that “people should know their place” in regards to attending and dressing for such high-end events struck a chord in particular. Which led us to wonder whether Henley and its ilk are really the bastions of unrepentant snobbery that some make them out to be. Many seem to be of the opinion that rowing is only...

As first reported by the Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia (Penn.) Episcopal Academy rowers James Konopka and Nick Mead made the ultimate sacrifice during their Under-17 doubles race at the Head of the Schuykill regatta on Sunday when they abandoned a promising start to help rescue two fellow competitors who had capsized. With temperatures unseasonably cold and Philadelphia (Penn.) St. Joseph's Prep rowers Joe Leonard and Andrew Burrichter struggling with their boat and treading water in the icy river, Konopka and Mead made a snap decision to give up a promising start that could have landed them in the medals to...

(11-13) 17:44 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Friday the 13th was the luckiest day of the year for two British adventurers who passed under the Golden Gate Bridge on Friday morning after rowing a 23-foot-long boat more than 5,000 miles across the Pacific from Japan. The voyage took 189 days - more than six months - on a boat made of Kevlar and propelled only by muscle power. The two men were stalked by whales, tossed by storms, ran low on food and sometimes despaired. They did not sight land until Thursday, when the dim silhouette of Point Reyes appeared on...

Ukrainian border guards arrested Belarus's national rowing team on Tuesday for illegally entering the country on a flotilla of eight boats. The border guard service said a coast guard vessel was dispatched to intercept and detain 10 rowers who had crossed into Ukrainian waters on the border with Transdniestria, a region of ex-Soviet Moldova controlled by separatists. Team members told officials they were unaware they had crossed the border in the southern Ukrainian region. They now face charges in court. News reports said the Belarussians had been invited to train for the world championship in Transdniestria as reservoirs in their...
