• Would a Vote for a Member of a Cult to be President help Legitimise their Cult?

    01/21/2012 7:44:29 AM PST · by Amerisrael · 110 replies
That's probably a better question to ask than the one posed by George Handlery over at the Brussels Journal:"Would a Mormon President Subvert American Democracy?"Handlery writes the following:["What follows below is not a Romney-fan’s propaganda. Actually, my favorite used to be another aspirant. The LDS affiliation of Mitt Romney exposes us again to the temptation to make religion into a criterion for picking a candidate.""Now then, the theological validity of Mormonism’s version of Christianity is beyond my competence and my interest. To many, the implications of a President embracing that creed are of concern.""However, American public life and her high-level...

Ann Coulter was just on Fox and Friends. She was crying over the fact that Romney got decimated in South Carolina. She offered a few talking points from the Romney camp including: 1. Newt is the lease conservative of all Candidates running. 2. Newt is unelectable because of his failed marriages. 3. The Freddy Mac non-issue. 4. John K asked a legitimate question and he is a completely fair and honorable reporter. 5. South Carolina is going back to it democratic roots and backing someone who calls Obama a socialist. She laid out the establishment talking point that everyone who...

Newt Gingrich apparently won Monday night’s debate on Fox News, but likely this is a case of a last-second touchdown when you are down by two touchdowns. Seth Leibsohn of National Review Online gave the night to Newt: “When he is right, he is great. The ongoing problem is when he is wrong. But tonight he was right — about a lot, and said it better than anyone.” Newt showed his Tea Party side: I think it’s very important for us to look at job creation. As a young member of Congress, I worked with President Ronald Reagan. We passed...

Trolling a bit admittedly, but it appears that even if Romney secures the nomination, he is destined to lose due to good, old-fashioned religious bigotry.

I am convinced that there is no conservative that would have 80% support from FreeRepublic. Everyone is a RINO. I have been a member for about 8 years and despise the left as much as the next guy, but I am voting for Romney. It has taken me 4 years to digest the thought but like it or not, he has thrown his lot in with us and said that his values have changed - Polician speak, maybe/probably. The alternatives - Gingrich, Perry, and Santorum are a joke for national candidates. Indepedents will decide this election, not the RINO haters...

My choice for President is Mitt Romney. I just shuddered at that statement. But there it is. There is the reality that 13 debates, months of bickering and intrigue, and countless discussions with conservative brethren have brought me. It is kind of a sad reality. Is this the best conservatives could do? So here has been my calculation for who I would support, from the beginning. First, the candidate must be electable and able to defeat Barack Obama, both electorally and intellectually. Second, they must broaden the base of the Republican Party, both on the conservative and moderate sides. Third,...

In 1993, Mitt Romney was a successful businessman with an urge to enter public life and a plan to challenge Ted Kennedy for a Senate seat from Massachusetts.

Romney was also a high-ranking official in the Mormon church -- in charge of all church affairs in the Boston area -- with a dilemma over abortion. Romney was personally pro-life, and the church was pro-life, but a majority of the Massachusetts electorate was decidedly pro-choice.

  • Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?

    one man's opinion...
As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others...

If you believe, as I do, that leaders are handpicked by the elites to achieve a means to an end, then Mitt Romney is the logical choice to be the next President of the United States. The fact that he infuriates a lot of the folks on this blog proves he is the best candidate. Because any successful Republican needs to be two things, okay make that three, in order to walk into the WH. ONE be white, TWO be a non-offensive white and THREE be married to a hot blond. But, as the Shamwow guy would say, there's more!...
