Robin Carnahan will not seek a third term as Missouri Secretary of State, according to Democratic sources. Carnahan, a member of one of the state's most prominent political families, has been in Jefferson City since 2004. But after losing a bid for U.S. Senate last year by a wide margin, she did not raise any money for her state campaign, fueling speculation that she would not seek to stay on as Secretary of State.

ST. LOUIS -- Republicans have been running all summer with the wind at their backs -- now the fall breeze has offered the Missouri GOP a boost, too, in the form of a stimulus gust blowing towards the opposition. The $107 million in stimulus cash awarded to Tom Carnahan, however, couldn't have come at a worse time for his siblings, both of whom are on the ballot in November.

Being an ‘in your face’ kinda gal, I always admired the no-nonsense approach indicated in Missouri’s unofficial sobriquet: the “Show-Me” State. But the sense of plain dealing that name conjures up is missing from this latest dog-and-pony show coming out of Missouri, involving an unknown candidate for the Republican U.S. Senate primary who is hitching his campaign wagon to the passions he hopes to arouse with complaints the MO Secretary of State discriminated again him by compelling him to prove he is an American citizen or else she would remove his name from the ballot. It all began when “jbjd”...

Barack Obama, the hardest working man in show business (just ask him), will spend three days and two nights this week in Las Vegas, a city he has bashed repeatedly as a place to not waste precious dollars visiting.Obama will attend a fundraiser for Sen. Harry Reid, but has only one official function planned for his early Vegas weekend. According to KVVU-TV, the White House released Obama's travel plans today:White House officials said Air Force One would arrive Thursday, but Obama would not make any public appearances until Friday at the UNLV campus. The 17th Amendment is stupid: The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years…. But let me start at the beginning. Article I § 3 cl. 1 of the Constitution originally established the election of Senators through the state legislatures. The Federalist #62 laid out numerous arguments for the Constitutional framework of the Senate and its method of selection. The senatorial trust, which, requiring greater extent of information and stability of character, requires at the same time that the senator should have reached a period of...

Recently, VoteVets.org began running a television commercial designed to tear down Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) as he seeks the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond (R-Mo.). Unfortunately for the folks from the liberal group purporting to represent veterans, my Kansas City friend Bungalow Bill did some research and found several holes worth noting in the 30-second spot.

Democrat Robin Carnahan and Republican Roy Blunt are dead even in the first Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 survey of the hotly contested race for the U.S. Senate in Missouri. Both candidates capture 46% of the vote in a new telephone survey of Missouri voters. Two percent (2%) favor some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are not sure which candidate they will vote for. Blunt, a member of Congress since 1997, has held the number two GOP position in the House, serving as minority whip. His son was governor of Missouri from 2005 to 2009. Carnahan, currently Missouri’s secretary of...

Mike Ferguson, a prominent member of the state's Libertarian Party, announced today that he is now a Republican. Ferguson - who ran for lieutenant governor in 2004 under the Libertarian Party banner - is a Grandview alderman. He was active in promoting Libertarian Bob Barr's 2008 presidential campaign. "My principles and beliefs have not changed," Ferguson said in statement. "I am for cutting unneeded government spending. I am a fiscal conservative who believes that government should stay out of the private sector as much as possible. I am pro-life. I am a believer in the common-sense truth that protecting personal...
