Durst died Monday in a state prison hospital facility in Stockton, attorney Chip Lewis said. He said the death was from natural causes due to a number of ailments. Durst was convicted in September of shooting Susan Berman at point-blank range at her Los Angeles home in 2000. He was sentenced Oct. 14 to life in prison without parole.

Durst, 78, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday for murdering his close friend, Susan Berman, inside her Benedict Canyon home in 2000. Durst has been held in a wing of USC Medical Center under the watch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department throughout the trial, but it was not immediately clear if he was still in that facility or when or where he became infected with the coronavirus. The 78-year-old spent the majority of the trial seated in a wheelchair. In court filings, Durst’s attorneys repeatedly sought a mistrial, claiming Durst was too sick to testify...

A Los Angeles jury convicted Robert Durst on Friday of murdering his best friend 20 years ago in a case that took on new life after the New York real estate heir participated in a documentary that connected him to the slaying linked to his wife's 1982 disappearance. Durst, 78, was convicted of the first-degree murder of Susan Berman, who was shot at point-blank range in the back of the head in her Los Angeles home in December 2000 as she was prepared to tell police how she helped cover up his wife's killing. Berman, the daughter of a Las...

Jill Biden’s ex-husband revealed that he had an intimate relationship with the first wife of accused killer and New York real estate heir Robert Durst — just 10 days before she vanished in 1982. Bill Stevenson, who was married to the first lady from 1970 to 1975, said in an interview with News 12 Westchester that he decided to open up about the affair for the first time because of Durst’s failing health and ongoing trial. “I feel like I’m the missing link in this case,” Stevenson, a concert hall owner from Delaware, told the outlet’s Tara Rosenbloom.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office was expected in court Tuesday to argue millionaire real estate heir Robert Durst should not be allowed to delay the start of his murder trial. Prosecutors have also asked to record the testimony of several more trial witnesses -- including one more "secret" witness -- in order to preserve their statements in case they were unable to testify at the trial.

A so-called secret witness in the Los Angeles murder case against New York real estate heir Robert Durst was revealed Wednesday as a longtime friend of the millionaire and the woman he is accused of killing. New York advertising executive Nathan "Nick" Chavin entered a courtroom through a back door with a personal security detail for his protection. Chavin, 72, said he once considered Durst his best friend and thought the feeling was mutual with one exception: Durst was even closer with Susan Berman, the mutual friend Durst is accused of fatally shooting in 2000 at her Los Angeles home.

Robert Durst’s lawyer said Tuesday that his 71-year-old client “was tricked” while filming the HBO documentary in which the millionaire was recorded saying "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." “The editing was designed for good television, but it wasn’t designed to get to the truth," attorney Dick DeGuerin said in an interview on the "Today" show. "The Jinx" chronicled the life of the eccentric and controversial real estate heir, including the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen, the 2000 death of his friend Susan Berman and the 2001 shooting death and dismemberment of Durst’s...

GALVESTON - New York millionaire Robert Durst may have chopped up the body of his elderly neighbor and tossed the pieces into Galveston Bay, but a jury today cleared him of murder. The eight-man, four-woman jury endured two months of grisly photos and testimony worthy of a soap opera and finally decided there wasn't enough evidence to discount Durst's story of self-defense, that Morris Black was an unbalanced and violent old man who died as the two struggled for a gun in September 2001. Durst admitted to dismembering his friend but blamed an alcohol-induced panic. The heir to one of...

Blaming a "medical mishap," New York millionaire Robert Durst pleaded "no contest" Tuesday to the charge of criminal mischief, a class C misdemeanor, after being accused of exposing himself and urinating inside a CVS store on Kirby in July. "Mr. Durst expressed his apologies to CVS for this unfortunate medical mishap," attorney Chip Lewis said in a prepared statement handed to reporters in court Tuesday. "He compensated them for the damage done and appreciates their understanding." Lewis said neither he nor Durst would comment further on the case. The real estate mogul did not attend the scheduled appearance in County...

Cross-dressing killer Robert Durst was freed from a NJ federal prison yesterday......... The wildly eccentric Durst, 62-year-old heir to the Durst real-estate empire in NY and the serial suspect in a string of violent crimes, walked out of the federal pen....hopped into a black limo and was driven to Philadelphia International Airport for a first-class flight. After leaving the lockup, Durst's driver attempted to elude reporters by speeding along small back roads in South Jersey before stopping at a rest station on the outskirts of Philadelphia. There, a frail and haggard Durst used a McDonald's restroom..........he appeared startled to see...

GALVESTON -- It must have seemed like deja vu Sunday to Galveston County Commissioner Eddie Janek to find police dragging another dismembered body from Galveston Bay near his island home. Two years ago, the discovery of 71-year-old Morris Black's hacked-up torso and limbs in the same area led to a murder trial that involved one of the richest men in America and focused a national spotlight on this island resort city. Janek was amazed at the coincidence of a headless torso being found just weeks after a jury acquitted New York millionaire Robert Durst of murder in Black's death. Later...
