Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms quipped that she "stayed in her lane" this Thanksgiving after her mac and cheese became the butt of the holiday joke in 2018. "Before you ask, I stayed in my lane this year," she tweeted, referencing her 2018 picture posted to Twitter that was heavily roasted. In the tweet, she added a picture of four pies.

Burnt toast can expose people to more pollution than if they were standing at a busy road junction, a study has claimed. Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin found burnt toast was especially harmful and the safest way was to “go for gold” – allowing the bread to turn a light gold colour. The team of experts built a mock-up of a three-bed house and equipped it with monitors to assess how everyday activities impacted on air quality. Roasting and frying can also prove to be toxic, the research found. Researchers in the US found the least harmful...

Don't have time to wait for a latte or a pot of drip to brew? Starbucks Corp. says it has an answer: instant coffee. The Seattle-based coffee retailer (Nasdaq: SBUX) plans to unveil an instant coffee product next week. In a memo sent to Starbucks employees Thursday, Vivek Varma, Starbucks senior vice president of public affairs, said the product could be in stores by Feb. 18. Varma said this won't be your father's instant coffee. She said Starbucks has developed technology to "absolutely replicate the taste of Starbucks coffee in an instant form." Starbucks has been working on the project...

A man allegedly fleeing to New York after chopping up his friend stood out on the flight because of his strange behaviour, a court has heard. A British Airways steward thought Richard Markham was drunk or afraid of flying, Winchester Crown Court heard on Thursday. Mr Markham, 28, of Basingstoke, Hampshire, denies murdering drinking partner Tristian Lovelock on 31 May last year. The jury had earlier heard that he hacked the 25-year-old father-of-two to pieces before baking his arm in an oven and scattering other body parts in nearby gardens and a park. The accused asked for a "ticket to...

Khatami gets roasting from Spanish press By Isambard Wilkinson in Madrid (Filed: 30/10/2002) The first visit to Spain by an Iranian head of state since the 1979 Islamic revolution went from bad to worse yesterday. A state banquet has already been cancelled because the Spaniards refused to ban wine. Now the press has savaged President Mohammed Khatami's delegation for misogyny and arrogance. Every newspaper carried front page reports of Mr Khatami's arrival in Madrid, pointedly noting that he had not shaken hands with female dignitaries. President Mohammed Khatami El Mundo said: "Khatami neither offered his hand nor paid respect to...
