Don't have time to wait for a latte or a pot of drip to brew? Starbucks Corp. says it has an answer: instant coffee.
The Seattle-based coffee retailer (Nasdaq: SBUX) plans to unveil an instant coffee product next week. In a memo sent to Starbucks employees Thursday, Vivek Varma, Starbucks senior vice president of public affairs, said the product could be in stores by Feb. 18.
Varma said this won't be your father's instant coffee. She said Starbucks has developed technology to "absolutely replicate the taste of Starbucks coffee in an instant form." Starbucks has been working on the project for 20 years, Varma said.
Varma said Starbucks would host an event next week in New York and other cities to introduce the new instant product.
Worldwide, there is a $17 billion market for instant coffee, according to the memo.
The new product was reported in Advertising Age , which said Starbucks planned to roll out a soluble coffee product called Via.
There are more than 50 Starbucks locations in the Triangle.
I grind SB beans each morning. I love SB coffee, or Dunkin Donut coffee. The only thing I don’t have at home is Blue-Berry Coffee Cake.
If I’m not mistaken, in the long run, instant coffee is actually cheaper. My only problem is it didn’t taste as good as fresh brewed. If someone comes up with a good instant, I’ll happily give it a try. At least I wouldn’t throw out as much!
“I love SB coffee, or Dunkin Donut coffee.”
Dunkin Donuts coffee is tasteless and SB tastes burnt. How the heck can you like both?
OK, so what do you drink? Let’s see if I have an opinion.
What coffee do you order at STBX?
I order (devane617) a regular coffee, 1/2 inch cream, 1/2 pack Splenda. Oh yea, and Blue-Berry Coffee Cake.
I don’t know what (devane617) is but you can try asking for the mild brew of the day. Usually the default is the bold. You can also ask them to brew any of the coffees in the store as a French Press. Its approx $3.50 but its two grandes or a venti and takes about ten minutes..
I personal go for the south American coffees I like the coco back note.
And since you'll probably ask, I'll tell you right up front: I purchase high quality Arabica beans green (un-roasted) and then roast them to perfection at home using a fluid bed (hot air) roaster. It's the only way to get the absolute freshest, high quality, great tasting coffee. (And, the price per pound is equal to or better than any pre-roasted whole bean coffee in any store).
I love my keurig!
The 'devane617;' is my id. the comment was to poser, so i specified it was not a reply from poser.
enjoy the coffee i drink. of course, ‘mediocre’ is an opinion that is incorrect.
In the price/taste value comparison, McDonald’s coffee beats Starbucks hands-down.
Buy green beans and roast your own, or at least find a coffee shop that roasts in-house daily. There’s nothing like it.
I take it that’s kind of like a Tassimo? It’s great for a quick fix of decent coffee, and the Tassimo chai is good by any standard.
I need more coffee as soon as I pressed post I realized it was your handle.
If you order a tall and like cream, ask for a tall in a grande cup. You get the full amount of coffee and you could add as much cream as you like.
Just remember to ask for the mild brew of the day instead of the bold, The bold STBX have been double roasted.
The SB beans I buy for home is the “House Blend” “Medium.” It makes a really good cup of coffee. I tried the ‘Bold’ recently, and it was a bit too strong for me. I guess, but don’t know for sure, what I get when I make my order is ‘Mild.’
