  • 'Laugh then Think': Strange Research Honored at 33rd Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony

    09/24/2023 11:19:20 AM PDT · by algore · 10 replies
Since 1999, Slashdot has been covering the annual Ig Nobel prize ceremonies — which honor real scientific research into strange or surprising subjects. "Each winner (or winning team) has done something that makes people LAUGH, then THINK," explains the ceremony web page, promising that "a gaggle of genuine, genuinely bemused Nobel laureates handed the Ig Nobel Prizes to the new Ig Nobel winners." As co-founder Marc Abrahams says on his LinkedIn profile, "All these things celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative — and spur people's interest in science, medicine, and technology." You can watch this year's entire goofy webcast online....
  • Uh oh.... Trump may have really done it this morning. I can't defend him anymore.

This is what Donald Trump posted on Twitter today, 8-8-15, at 8:46 a.m. Re Megyn Kelly quote" "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever" (NOSE). Just got on with thought." Red State at approximately 9:30 this morning, disinvited him from the Red State Gathering this weekend. He was supposed to speak today. I supported him since he jumped into the race, but, I think Donald finally went too far. Scary, because now he will probably run as a Third Party.

  • 1 October, National Day of the People's Republic of China [Same Day Obamacare Opens]

    09/30/2013 2:33:48 AM PDT · by SoFloFreeper · 4 replies
On Saturday 1 October 1949, the inauguration of the People's Republic, known in Chinese as Kaiguo dadian (开国大典), was proclaimed by Mao Zedong atop the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tiananmen Gate, not to be confused with the eponymous Square). For some reason, in most if not all Western reconstructions and recountings of the event, Mao is credited to have uttered at this occasion the words that "the Chinese people have stood up" - and in the various commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the PRC in 2009, this was any different.
  • Why do Jews still support Obama?

I’ve been puzzled ever since Obama first started campaigning for president. Why do Jews support him? It cannot be their love for learning influenced by his great grades in any of his colleges. He has refused to disclose them. So it’s, Oh! Who cares about them? “He had to do well to become editor and chief of the Harvard Law Review,” they chirp. Actually, he was the president of the HLR, and he was appointed to that position. It couldn’t be because of his great record in the Illinois Senate. He never initiated a bill and merely voted a majority...
  • How to Lose an Election

I always admired Thomas E. Dewey for publicly admitting that he had managed to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" in the 1948 election [1]. Let us hope that we don't have to make the same confession this November. This year, the omens are favorable, with voters and donations seeming to shift toward the Republicans. However, just in case the conservative-Tea Party-Republican majority of America wants two more years of Democratic domination, here is a well-proven formula for losing an election -- one that we seem to be following at the moment: 1. Divide and be conquered. 2. Let...
  • Rosary vs. Repetitious Prayer [Ecumenical]

    Q. Isn’t the Rosary condemned by Jesus in Matthew 6:7? Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words A. Jesus is not condemning all repeated prayer. If He was, we would be left with no idea how many times any prayer could be repeated. Never? Once? Twice? Three times? Once a day? Once a year? Once a lifetime? Twice…etc. How exactly could we obey Jesus IF in this verse He WAS condemning ALL repeated prayer? We have no concrete direction. After all, when...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!
