I will say that yesterday’s Halloween party was better than the one during the 2012 presidential election. As you may recall, we had to cancel the party altogether that year, due to the strain of the campaign. What do you mean we’ve cancelled Halloween!?! I’ve been working my butt off!I did find the theme for the WON’s very last Halloween blast - Alice in Wonderland - rather interesting however. Not that it wasn’t appropriate - as we’ve discussed our Down the Rabbit Hole Administration more than a few times (here, here, here, and here for starters) over the years. It just that the motif...
  • Ezra Klein Sees Nothing Odd About Identical Manchurian Candidate Hillary Descriptions

Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life. Anybody who ever saw the movie The Manchurian Candidate would have quickly thought it rather odd that every soldier captured in Korea with Raymond Shaw gave identical answers when asked to describe him. However, when associates of Hillary used identical answers to describe her, Ezra Klein of Vox seems not to notice anything strange there. Here is Ezra making the observation about those identical (robotic?) descriptions without the least hint of curiosity as to the Manchurian Candidate quality about them:

As happens time and time again: you wake up one day and it’s Spring! The next thing you know, summer is in full swing: and suddenly it’s Autumn. Then in the wink of an eye we find ourselves back in the grip of another cold, barren Winter. Egyptian tanks confront protestors in Cairo demonstrating against Morsi’s power grab “(snip)The explanation is self-evident: This is not secularized democracy protective of the rule of law and individual rights but Islamist authoritarianism.” Boy, who could’ve seen that coming? It’s almost as if our good intentions and the power of big guy’s personality alone...

A White House official told POLITICO Sunday that a Halloween party thrown for military families in 2009 was no secret and that there was no conspiracy to cover-up the role of two well-known Hollywood figures. In her new book "The Obamas," Jodi Kantor reports that the White House communications staff was concerned about the optics of the Obamas hosting a star-studded 'Alice in Wonderland'-themed Halloween party in a time of economic misery. As a result, Kantor reports, they did not highlight the role that director Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp played at the event. Burton helped decorate the White...

Rumor has it that before Helena Bohnam Carter was cast in the latest Alice In Wonderland movie Tim Burton wanted the film to have a more political undertone... Pelosi: No reason for Grayson apology By Mike Soraghan - 10/01/09 11:39 AM ET Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said there's no reason for Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) to apologize for his "Die quickly" remark, since Republicans have made statements just as outrageous as his. "If anybody's going apologize, everybody should apologize," Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference. "We are holding Democrats to a higher standard than their own members."

The Obama campaign was in full spin mode this week touting its decision to allow Hillary Clinton to have a roll call vote at the convention so her delegates can register their support of her. "It's an olive branch that we think will pay dividends in party unity," one Democratic congressman told me. I'm not so sure. Many Clinton supporters will be appreciative of the symbolic gesture, but others such as those who unofficially call themselves Pumas (Party Unity My Ass) may see it as an opportunity to make more trouble for Mr. Obama both on and off the convention...

In today's "conversation" over the web, Hillary declared among many things that (1) "We have got to do more, look for alternatives. I support all kinds of ethanol. I support looking at the solar and geothermal,l and certainly trying to do more on hyrdrogen which are longer term goals. I think we have to do more on conservation and energy efficiency. I really am impressed with what California has done over thirty years, because they have imposed conservation and energy efficiency standards, and they have kept flat their energy use, and the rest of the country has just unfortunately continued...

We doubt that this will come as a surprise to Republicans, but Hillary Rodham Clinton wants to become Queen.Well, that is sort of what she told KISS-108 morning man Matt Siegel the other day when she was flogging her best seller 'Living History' and promoting her book signing in Cambridge tomorrow.'I think that we have to recognize in our country that many other nations have divided the responsibilities of head of state and head of government between two people,' she said.'You know, some people have a king or a queen, and a prime minister, or a presdient and a prime...

Ever wonder what they talk about up there on the podium, when the President is being sworn in? It's not always nice, according to Bill Clinton's former senior advisor, Sidney Blumenthal. His new book 'The Clinton Wars' is exerpted all this week on Salon.com.The former White House insider reports that Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist was 'chilly' towards Clinton during his second inaguration in January 1997.Blumenthal recounts the scene: '[Rehnquist] was grim while swearing in Clinton to his second term, with Hillary [Clinton] holding the Bible. Now Rehnquist turned to speak to the Presdident. 'Good Luck', he said. 'You'll need...
