I have a gripe with the "news" networks and I hope everyone will join me in getting the networks to resolve it. Nearly everytime a politician has a news conference, the reporters' questions are completely inaudible to the viewing public. We get to hear the pols' answers, but seldom get to hear how or from whom the question was asked or framed (which can be equally important IMO). I just wrote to every email address at FNC (but it was the same on CNN and MSNBC) about the appalling inaudibility of the reporters' questions at Kerry's Florida news conference today....

Harold W. Andersen: Swift-boat questions continue because Kerry refuses to reply BY HAROLD W. ANDERSEN WORLD-HERALD CONTRIBUTING EDITOR Published Sunday, September 19, 2004 An attorney friend wrote to complain about "wild-eyed accusations" against John Kerry. His letter said that "most of the assertions by the Texas-funded 'Swift Boat Veterans' regarding John Kerry's actions in Vietnam had been refuted by real facts and undermined by their own contradictory statements." But the truth is that most of the assertions by members of "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" not only have not been refuted - they haven't even been replied to. Most of...

WSSU students question Blair's paid appearance Former reporter, forced to resign from N.Y. Times, will speak, answer questions By Mary Giunca JOURNAL REPORTER Tuesday, September 14, 2004 Disgraced journalist Jayson Blair will speak at Winston-Salem State University on Wednesday, and some students are asking why the university is spending $3,000 to bring him there. Ebonee Russell, a senior and a reporter for The News Argus, the school's paper, said she wonders whether Blair deserves any attention from the university at all. "What kind of role model is he? What kind of example is he setting for the students here?" she...

September 13, 2004) -- Democratic candidate for president John Kerry decided last month to stop unscheduled conversations with reporters on his campaign plane. The decision, which gained wide attention only last week, followed a precipitous drop in the polls that some political analysts blame on just such an informal chat. Er, um, ahem...three words of advice from an aging professor who once covered half a dozen campaigns for the White House: Don't do it. In early August, Kerry was in Grand Canyon National Park on a sunny day talking about domestic policy. President Bush had been challenging Kerry , who...

Juan: As a journalist, I know that you care deeply about the truth. That is what your work is all about, and your reputation is based on obtaining and reporting the truth. I must say that I was quite surprised that you said on FOX News yesterday that the SwiftVets have been proven to be totally wrong. Maybe we at FreeRepublic can be of some help. At least part of the truth can be very easily determined. If John Kerry fills out a simple goverment form called an SF-180, he can authorize the release of all of his records. I...

NEW ORLEANS -- Who knows what lurks in the heart and mind of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry? Not the traveling press corps, that's for sure. Kerry has been under wraps for the last month, declining to subject himself to what must surely be the painful process of answering national reporters' questions. Kerry used to regularly assure his audiences that, if elected president, he would hold a press conference every month to communicate with the nation's citizenry. (That was a not-so-subtle dig at President Bush, who has held only 12 formal press conferences during his four years in office,...

As Democratic hopeful John Kerry whines about the Swift Boat Veterans questioning his Vietnam “war service,” more revelations have surfaced which challenge the legitimacy of his first Purple Heart. The Senator claims that that medal was received because of enemy fire he took, but his own personal diary contradicts that assertion. While the Senator’s supporters tried unsuccessfully to portray President Bush as being “AWOL” during the Vietnam War, they won’t address the fact that Kerry tried to defer his military service at that time for 12 months. And what would Kerry and his friends say about the fact that his...

The George Bush tax cuts will begin to expire as early as January 1, 2005. As president, would you allow them to expire, thus raising taxes on Americans? Will you allow the Navy to release your complete Naval Service and medical records to the press? Will your Supreme Court nominees face an abortion litmus test? Name three people you'd appoint to the Supreme Court. During this presidential campaign, you have used legal intimidation in an attempt to silence critics. You have also attempted to use the FCC to ban a book you disagree with. As president, would you continue...

Dole Questions Kerry's Vietnam Wounds 11 minutes ago By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer CRAWFORD, Texas - Former Republican Sen. Bob Dole suggested Sunday that John Kerry apologize for past testimony before Congress about alleged atrocities during the Vietnam War and joined critics of the Democratic presidential candidate who say he received an early exit from combat for "superficial wounds." Dole also called on Kerry to release all the records of his service in Vietnam. Separately, President Bush's re-election campaign continued to deny links to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, an anti-Kerry group running ads in three states, after the...

Stone Age Columbus - questions and answersWhat was the Ice Age climate like in southern France/Spain? During the last glacial maximum around 20,000 years ago the climate was a lot colder and drier than now. In southern France one could expect summer temperatures of between 5-10°C and winter temperatures dropping below -20°C. Even so, there were three basic land types that had their own advantages and disadvantages for people: Wide coastal plain that was probably an open grass land with sparse vegetation Uplands that would have been much like the Arctic tundra today Inland valleys that were well sheltered and...

Thorazine just kicked in... WASHINGTON — Mr. Kerry, in your convention speech you threw caution to the wind and endorsed what you called "one of the oldest Commandments: 'Honor thy father and thy mother'." Oldest? Were they not all published together? Here are some other questions: You invoke the Commandment to explain why you "will not cut" Social Security benefits. Does that include raising the retirement age, which Congress set at 65 in 1935, when the life expectancy of an American male was 62? Regarding military action, your platform says "we will never wait for a green light from abroad...

Wrapped in their own version of cognitive dissonance, the liberal national media will not ask any tough questions of the Kerry campaign. So, I guess I'll have to get totally politically incorrect for a moment and ask a question many people are starting to wonder about: If John Kerry announced tomorrow that he intended to switch to the Socialist or Communist party, how would his platform change? Really, that's not as nasty of a question as it may seem when we study the cold hard facts. After all, let's face it, not only does it look as if the Democratic...

Early hair sample raises questions Posted: July 26, 2000 - 12:00am EST WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) - Under a small Woodburn city park may lie the answer to who are the earliest Oregonians yet discovered. Scientists have found an ancient strand of hair in Woodburn's Front Street Park - a human hair that may have been left behind before modern American Indians settled in North America a few thousand years ago. The hair, found in a core sample during a June 1999 dig, could be one of the oldest found in the Western United States, said Alison Stenger, director of the...

BAGHDAD, May 13 -- Nicholas Berg came to Iraq in December with little more than a bag of tools and a desire to find work in his chosen trade: repairing transmission towers. He hoped to tap the opportunities available to individual contractors willing to brave the hazards of living in a war-scarred country. In the four months before he was decapitated by Islamic guerrillas who said they were avenging the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. soldiers, Berg was robbed once, detained twice and held for 13 days by Iraqi police who were both incredulous and suspicious that an American...
