Wrapped in their own version of cognitive dissonance, the liberal national media will not ask any tough questions of the Kerry campaign. So, I guess I'll have to get totally politically incorrect for a moment and ask a question many people are starting to wonder about:
If John Kerry announced tomorrow that he intended to switch to the Socialist or Communist party, how would his platform change? Really, that's not as nasty of a question as it may seem when we study the cold hard facts.
After all, let's face it, not only does it look as if the Democratic Party is using the old communist propaganda techniques to warp the minds of the voters, they are, in fact, using those very same techniques -- albeit, with a few modern twists and improvements. Because, reading their political literature, it is very difficult to tell if the Democratic Party turned into a socialist party or the Democratic Socialists of America took over the Democratic Party. Their platforms and ideals are nearly indistinguishable.
And, in fact, they have a very synergistic relationship.
To start with, the Democratic Socialists of America's (DSA) political action committee is officially urging its members to work for the election of John Kerry in the presidential election.(1)
Frank Llewellyn, national director of the DSA admitted, "Kerry was hardly the first choice of our members.
Most supported Dennis Kucinich or Howard Dean in the Democratic primary elections and would be very critical of Senator Kerry's voting record on trade issues, as well as his support for the resolution authorizing the use of force in Iraq; but the most important concern of our members now is to defeat Bush."
Other than the Democratic Party and its various affiliated unions, the DSA is the largest socialist organization in the U.S. and is a part of the Socialist International, an umbrella federation for the world's socialists. The DSA was originally formed to push the Democratic Party to the left. And, as history shows, it has.
Today's Democrats do not like the terms liberal or socialist. Instead, they hide behind the new socialist term, "Progressive."
Rep. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the only admitted card carrying socialist in Congress. Years ago, Sanders started the Congressional Progressive Caucus(2) so others may participate without declaring their motives publicly. For many years, the DSA actually ran the Progressive Caucus web site.
Today, Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Barbra Lee (D-CA) co-chair the Progressive Caucus. Both have long histories of association with socialists, communists and other sorted extremist groups.
Some may think the Progressive Caucus is just a socialist fringe group in Congress, but that's not true at all. For instance, House Democrats voted Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as House Minority Leader. Pelosi has been a card carrying member of the Progressive Caucus for years.
Then comes the Communist Party USA.(3) A couple weeks ago the Communist Party(CPUSA) also announced that it will not run a candidate for president and will not support progressive third-party candidates. Instead the CPUSA said it will support the Democratic Party in an effort to defeat President Bush and the Republican Congress.
Joelle Fishman, chairwoman of the CPUSA political action committee, told the party workers: "Our presidential campaigns in the past were a great opportunity to project our program, and I'm sure we will find ourselves at that point some time in the future. At this moment, we will convey our program best by working with all our might to build the broadest possible coalitions, fronts and networks that can defeat the undemocratic, imperialistic Bush war machine. This is our responsibility to our own class here and internationally."
There is also a Fabian style socialist group in Congress. "The Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) leads the New Democrat movement, a national network of elected officials and community leaders whose innovative ideas are modernizing progressive politics for the 21st Century."(4) An active arm of the DLC is the Progressive Policy Institute, "a research and education institute that is a project of the Third Way Foundation Inc.," which is yet another arm of the DLC.(5)
We might add, too, that the Fabian Society(6) in England, a strongly socialist organization, also supports Kerry for president.
This month, The Hill newspaper in Washington published an interesting tidbit on Kerry(7): "Kerry has taken some heat from some observers on both the left and right for his choice. 'Let America Be America' was part of Hughes's 'A New Song,' a pamphlet of often radical poems published by the socialist International Workers Order."
So, back to our question. If John Kerry announced tomorrow that he intended to switch to the Socialist or Communist Party, how would his platform change?
Apparently not much. Not much at all. And, that's just based on what he is saying to get elected. If he continued true to form, if elected, both DSA and CPUSA would be very happy with him. Even Communist China endorsed Kerry.(8)
It's the 75% of Americans who are not socialist or communist (or liberal media) who would be outraged by Kerry's actions.

The only thing more disturbing than recognizing the US is already socialist, is that the socialists don't recognize it, yet.
This needs to be said over and over again.
Socialism is anti-liberty.
A great piece, and all of it is true. What a sad state we find ourselves in. Socialists really need to be squashed if we intend to keep America free.
Sig Heil, John!!! The National Socialist Democratic Workers Party lives on....
It's a great question but the author does a terrible job of answering it. He doesn't go into either the Socialist program or the Democratic platform. Instead we hear that this Communist group supports Kerry. So? That's not the question. So, I'll try to answer the question as posed.
The key idea of socialism is often paraphrased as "from each according to his ability, to each according to their need". In other words the signature reform of socialism has always been nationalizing the means of production, turning more control of everything over the the government, and giving people 'what they need'. So..
Socialists Will:
Support Social Security:
socialism for old people
have very low "entry barriers" ie: five years of work
let those with no contributions take benefits
mentally ill, retarded, other claimed 'disabilities'
Support Socialized Medicine, including:
Medicare - socialized medicine for old people
Oregon Care - socialized medicine for the poor
proposed - socialized medicine for children
Prescription Drug benefit - socialized add on for old
Support generous welfare programs including:
AFDC / Workfare, WIC ...
"Earned Income Tax Credit" .. ie: free money for people
who don't pay taxes from those of us who do.
Support government owned and subsidized housing:
classic HUD 'projects' & new flavors
mandated "low income" housing penalty for builders
section 8 "infiltrate lazy baby-mamas everywhere"
Support outright confiscation & forfiture of property:
executive orders setting up new "national monuments"
more and more rules for public land, including human exclusion
Support generous public school education
K-12 mandatory indoctrination
12+ , free for poor, subsidized by taxpayers
Ever Increasing Taxation as an end in itself
100% taxation = Communism
60% taxation (our current level) = market socialism
Every increasing Govt. survelleince and "socializing" of the populace. Control them "for their own good"..
Hate Crimes make thought a crime
massive penalties for small crimes (Seatbelt fines, smoking fines)
breed the habit of obedience
Disarm the populace.
Use environmentalism where outright socialism isn't appealing to accomplish the same goals (Greens are Watermelons, Green on the Outside, Red on the Inside)

So the answer to the question is that Democratic POLICY would not change AT ALL. The Democrats are implementing socialism in America. They have been since 1936 and the first FDR administration. They have never stopped or even slowed.
___________________________________________________________
Reagan spoke against socialism, gently, but did nothing to reverse it. He did not control Congress and so really did not have the opportunity to, one supposes he would have if he could have based on his speeches, but also remember he was proud of having voted for FDR.
___________________________________________________________
Barry Goldwater was probably the most outspoked opponent of Socialism to run for President in the Socialist era and win the nomination. He lost by a wide margin, but at least he got the nomination.
___________________________________________________________
It is difficult to name a major party politician who opposes the broad program of Socialism in the present day. In the last election Steve Forbes was probably the only one.
___________________________________________________________
While Bush is uses the language of free markets in stump speeches he too is a supporter of socialism. Bush has done nothing to dismantal any government program or agency. He created the biggest new entitlement in 40 years, the prescription drug benefit. He promised to do more and he has.
___________________________________________________________
In summary, America is now and has been a Socialist country for 50 years. It will continue to become more Socialist for the foreseeable future becuase that is (apparently, based on all elections) what people want. The Republicans may be better on some social issues like Abortion and Gun Control but they have largely made peace with the idea of a trillion-dollar-a-year government that takes a huge % of working peoples money and transfers it around to the more deserving. The Dems would like even more taxes for higher payments to the chose, the Reps would like lower taxes. Neither is challenging the fundamental rightness of the Socialist vision.
I apologize for post 6. The preview function is important! I reformatted it in 8 so it is legible.
Couln't have said it better myself!
Socialism is anti-liberty. bump
That would require a big step to the right for Democrats.
"Progressive" is a code word for socialist, note that Sanders of VT is an officer.
Why these people are allowed to get on national TV and not disclose or be asked by the press reagrding their membership in a socialist organization is beyond me.

Congressional Progressive Caucus
You have o figure they really liked our President's prescription drug bill.
Agreed.
Those that vote for the (D) are voting for the socialist ideology. They, I'm sure, don't see it that way but, the following is similar to your breakdown and is fact.
Liberals don't confront facts well:
Once in office, (D) democrats' vote with the following:
* Against school vouchers
* Oppose Academic Freedom proposals
* Pro-NEA
* Pro-Unions
* Increase in taxes
* Increase the size of government
* Increase social program spending
* Weaken our military and intellegence gathering
* Pro-gun-control
* Against prayer in schools, 'God' in our society
* Anti-christian activities
* Pro-right to vote for criminals
* Character does NOT matter
* Pro-United Nations
* Placement of US military under UN control
* For intellectual dishonesty (i.e. unilateral support in Iraq)
* Cater to policies dictated by their mascots: ACLU, N.O.W., NARAL, Environmental groups, PETA, etc.
* anti-MLK - "Judge People by Skin Color Not Content of Character"
* Pro-affirmative action
* Pro-racial quota's
* For the transfer of US Sovereignty to the United Nations
* Reject & Oppose notion of right, wrong, good & evil
* Oppose moral accountability
* Against Individualism
* Pro-activist judgeships
* Oppose teaching of 'American History' in U.S. schools
* Proponents of & support for 'Revisionist History' programs
* For the changing of our Constitution to a 'Living Document'
* Anti-Capitalism
* Pro-socialistic practices
* Oppose tort reforms
The list is long.
Don't trust Kerry. His strategy to become president is to use bait and switch. This guy is disingenuous. This needs to be said over and over again. This man is scary.
Bttt
I disagree. Doug did a great job saying what he intended. His theme was not to write a lengthy dissertation on Socialism, etc, but rather to assume that Socialism is destructive and show Kerry's link thereto.
Also, for brevity, Doug limits the number of words in his essays.
