An very elderly friend who is in excellent health was told by her physician she has a chance of developing osteoporosis because of a ten year risk noted on her bone density scan.
At her age, the risks from the medication are worse than the risks to her bones. She declined.
She also declined over the years mammograms. There is no trace of breast cancer in her family.
There is a constant push to test, scan, invade, and overmedicate. It is up to the patient to examine the risks.
Of course, the doctor can always cancel a non-compliant patient.
