High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson is speaking out after a man allegedly brought a flamethrower and other weapons to a church parking lot on Sunday. Jefferson thanked High Point police officers for their quick response to the scene, including the off-duty officer who was working at Wesley Memorial Church that day. Charges of unlawful assembly and use of uniform in public were brought against 11 members of a group trying to enforce aspects of strict Islamic Sharia law in the North Rhine-Westphalia city, a spokeswoman for the Wuppertal police told The Local.
