BAGHDAD -An anti-American cleric is urging his followers to stop attacking U.S. troops in Iraq so that their withdrawal from the country isn't slowed down, a call meant to ramp up pressure on Baghdad's political leaders who are considering asking some American forces to stay. In a statement posted on his website, Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr told his militias to halt attacks against U.S. forces till the withdrawal is finished at the end of the year as required under a security agreement between Washington and Baghdad. "Out of my desire to complete Iraq's independence and to finish the withdrawal of...
  • My Rebuttal to a Progressive who Admonished Me to Play Nice ....

The following rebuttal is mine alone. I do not speak for my husband, for my friends, for my children, but solely for myself. I am tired of being told to sit down and shut up. I am tired of being told what I can and can not say. What is “acceptable”, while my ideas and values are mocked and trampled. Enough. I have had enough.
  • Obama: Outright Evil, or Simply Wrong? (How about both?)

Will it be easier to persuade people that Barack Obama is wrong on the issues or to try to convince them that he is outright evil? That’s a crucial question facing conservatives as we gear up for fateful election battles in 2010 and 2012. Based on human nature and political history, the answer to that question ought to be obvious: Americans have often felt that our leaders make mistakes or pursue destructive policies but we have rarely (if ever) believed that they did it deliberately to damage the country. In the last 80 years, Herbert Hoover, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter...

Really, people. Don’t act like those odious Democrats did. Describing Obama’s attempts to move the country far to the left should be undertaken in the measured and refined tones of a Bill Buckley fart. Because Republicans, why, they have more class. – Oh. And a few million less presidential votes, fewer House and Senate seats, and, soon, a diminished role in the judiciary. But still: they have more class! So, like, GO TEAM! **** update: for the strangely gleeful. update 2: Rather than develop an entire new post dedicated to answering Patterico, I’ll just point you here, here, and here....
  • Practical Wisdom For Calvinists - Written by Darryl M. Erkel (1998)

The following practical and theological items, although they apply to every believer regardless of their particular theological tradition, are especially directed to those who adhere to Reformed/Calvinistic theology. I. Recognize that Salvation is Broader than the Calvinist Camp. 1. All of us, at one time or another, were Arminian in our thinking. A professing Arminian may be just as unregenerate as a professing Calvinist, but one’s adherence to Arminian theology does not necessarily exclude them from the kingdom of God. It is disturbing to hear some Calvinists assign all Arminians to the lowest abyss while conveniently forgetting that they too,...

  • Notice Regarding Immigration Related Threads

I've been talking to some long time Freepers via email for several weeks (one in particular). His concern was over the immigration threads and how they turn out on Free Republic.

Many times these threads turn into flame wars. There appears to be a lot of pent up hostility that various factions have developed for each other which ends up coming out, over and over, and the result is that the threads turn into a lot of crap. The moderators get hit with dozens of abuse reports over personal attacks and other silliness. Eventually, it becomes more work than is really worthwhile, and the threads get moved to the backroom so we don't have to deal with it.
