Lori Rodriguez, a 27-year-old communications professional in New York City, is not saving for retirement, and it isn’t necessarily because she can’t afford to — it’s because she doesn’t expect it to matter. Like many people her age, Rodriguez believes climate change will have catastrophic effects on our planet. Some 88% of millennials — a higher percentage than any other age group — accept that climate change is happening, and 69% say it will impact them in their lifetimes. Engulfed in a constant barrage of depressing news stories, many young people are skeptical about saving for an uncertain future. “I...

Just after arriving in Washington to work for President Trump, Kellyanne Conway found herself in a downtown supermarket, where a man rushing by with his shopping cart sneered, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Go look in the mirror!” “Mirrors are in aisle 9 — I’ll go get one now,” Conway recalled replying. She brushed off the dart with the swagger of someone raised in the ever-attitudinal trenches of South Jersey. “What am I gonna do? Fall apart in the canned vegetable aisle?”

LONDON/DUBAI (Reuters) - OPEC sees oil’s rally towards $80 a barrel as a short-term spike driven by geopolitics rather than any supply shortage, four OPEC delegates said, a sign the group is not rushing yet to rethink its supply-cutting agreement. The view of top exporter Saudi Arabia is that any brief, speculator-driven jump in oil prices is not sufficient grounds for producers to boost output, an OPEC source familiar with the kingdom’s thinking said.

Senators went into a recess skeptical over whether they could agree to legislation repealing and replacing ObamaCare. They will return on Monday more doubtful than ever. Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), one of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) most loyal allies, said Thursday that it’s “unlikely” the GOP will get a healthcare deal. “I don’t see a comprehensive healthcare plan this year,” he told a local news station. Senate Republicans hoped to have a draft bill this week, but it now looks like there will at best be an outline.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — South Texas ranchers brought nilgai antelope from a California zoo decades ago, when it became fashionable to stock their sprawling acreage with exotic quarry. These days the species native to India and Pakistan are not so much a rarity in South Texas as a nuisance. For cattle ranchers they are a possible nemesis, threatening to spread a deadly tick to their herds. Federal wildlife officials say they are competing with native Rio Grande Valley species for food and trampling the brush they are trying so hard to preserve. The fast-running, 600-pound antelope have wandered all around the...

So my vacation plans to Cyprus have been canceled. Something about the government there seizing everybody's wallet because the country is bankrupt. Another nanny state bites the dust. When will they ever learn? Never. Here in the good old USA, there are 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus -- folks such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, New York Rep. Charles Rangel, California Rep. Maxine Waters and Florida Rep. Alan Grayson. Sanders is the only honest one in the bunch. He comes right out and admits he's a socialist. He'll take all your stuff while telling you tales of Ethan...

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) — Dan Conne says he and his wife and son thought they were going to die after getting lost while picking mushrooms and spending nearly a week in the rugged forest of southwest Oregon. They spent the nights huddled in a hollow log and considered sacrificing their pit bull, Jesse, for food. "She's that good a dog, she'd have done it, too," Conne said. But help finally arrived Saturday when a volunteer helicopter pilot decided to look outside the search area and spotted the family — Dan, his wife, Belinda, and their 25-year-old son, Michael —...

The following is an email sent by change.org Full ViewSarah Palin vs. NPR From: Change.org Action Alert Add to Contacts To: XXX@XXX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't let Sarah Palin kill public broadcasting Dear xxx Since National Public Radio fired Juan Williams last week for controversial remarks about Muslims, Fox News pundits have waged war on public broadcasting. They've called for defunding it completely, something conservatives have wanted for decades. Led by Sarah Palin, a chorus of commentators including Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrich, and Karl Rove are trying to paint public broadcasting as the "mouth of socialism" in a ploy to...

This morning, CNN ran with another of its ginned-up stories, this time, once again, slandering the military. The hostess breathlessly reported a "surge in soldier suicides" in the US Army because four (4) soldiers were suspected suicides at one of the Army's largest bases (Texas, I think). Not only was CNN clearly bashing the US military again, but the reporter then ended the piece with, 'We will continue to cover this story, and we will continue to demand the Army change.' Demand the Army change? This is, once again, an anti-military tirade thinly disguised as "news." CNN, you are trash.

Mayan leaders announced that priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after US President George W. Bush visits next week. "That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture," Juan Tiney, the director of a national association of indigenous people and peasant farmers, said Thursday. Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled...

One of the things that protestors in South Korea know is that the local riot police have ample experience with demonstrators. While a viable democracy, South Korea has seen out-of-control street riots in its turbulent past. Now authorities across the political spectrum are unwilling to allow anyone to go too far. Peaceful demonstrations? Sure, but don’t press your luck. While American demonstrators – including the most violent – are accustomed to being treated with kid gloves; in South Korea the gloves are off. This is something that career protestors Cindy “Peace Mom” Sheehan and Code Pink’s Medea Benjamin might want...

The Young Democrats platform for recruitment was actually quite simple. It read, “Do you hate this man?” Accompanied by an unflattering picture of…Yes, you guessed it. None other than the beloved 43rd President of The United States. I can see it now, some uninformed freshman coed taking the very same stroll I did, looking around in a similar fashion before resting her eyes on the very same flyer. The light bulb goes on. Like, oh my God! I totally hate George Bush too! He like, lied and stuff. I should join the Young Democrats Club so that I can better...

WASHINGTON - President Bush plans to address the nation Monday night on the immigration debate, trying to build momentum for legislation that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens. The White House said it was seeking time from television networks for the president's remarks. "This is crunch time," Tony Snow, the new White House press secretary said Friday at his first off-camera, or informal, briefing. On Thursday, Senate leaders reached a deal to revive a broad immigration bill that had appeared doomed just several weeks ago. Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating...

Shoppers Scuffle While Waiting for Xboxes 2 hours, 1 minute ago Shoppers waiting in line for the new Xbox 360 video game player scuffled outside a Wal-Mart Supercenter when a manager improvised rules for who would get the game first. It took more than 10 police officers to restore order, though no one was arrested.A crowd of about 300 people were waiting late Monday for the game to go on sale at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. Some of them had waited 12 hours when a night manager said the Xboxes would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, instead of...

The South's unconditional surrender in 1865 apparently was unacceptable to today's Neo-Confederates. They'd like to rewrite history, demonizing Abraham Lincoln and the federal government that forced them to remain in the awful United States against their will. On top of that, now they are opposing the U.S. Navy's plan to bury the crew of the CSS H.L. Hunley under the American flag next year. The Hunley was the first submarine to sink an enemy vessel. In 1863, it rammed and fatally damaged the Union warship USS Housatonic with a fixed torpedo, but then the manually driven sub sank on its...

This was one of the most thought revoking pieces I have read in recent weeks. Hillary's delightfully warm personality (albeit sometimes a bit quirky) comes sparkling through on each and every page of this fascinating romp through the Clinton Years in the White House. I heartily recommend it - and the cookie recipes in the Afterward are quite tasty, as well.
