A Q13 editor was fired Thursday, after it was revealed that they had doctored a clip of President Trump’s Tuesday Oval Office address. A listener to my program sent me a video that appears to show a deceptively edited video of President Trump’s speech from the Oval Office. We performed a side-by-side comparison of the video from our listener, apparently taken by a smart phone recording of Q13, to the raw video of Trump’s speech from CNN. That comparison revealed the Q13 video creating a loop of the President licking his lips — making it seem bizarre and unbalanced —...
  • Unretouched photo of Cindy Crawford leaked

An unretouched Marie Claire photo of Cindy Crawford leaked on Friday, in which the 48-year-old supermodel looks pretty amazing posing in a black bra, undies, a furry coat and a hat. Marie Claire commented on the photo, sharing that its origins are actually from a December 2013 cover story from Marie Claire Mexico and Latin America. "No matter where the photo came from, it's an enlightenment -- we've always known Crawford was beautiful, but seeing her like this only makes us love her more," the magazine writes."[The photo] is real, it is honest, and it is gorgeous."

Algorithm spots forgeries by spotting shadows that don't match light sources. (ISNS) -- A new algorithm can spot fake photos by looking for inconsistent shadows that are not always obvious to the naked eye. The technique, which will be published in the journal ACM Transactions on Graphics in September, is the latest tool in the increasingly sophisticated arms race between digital forensics experts and those who manipulate photos or create fake tableaus for deceptive purposes. National security agencies, the media, scientific journals and others use digital forensic techniques to differentiate between authentic images and computerized forgeries. James O'Brien, a computer...
  • N. Korea: More Doctored Photo of Kim Jong-il? (another patently photoshopped one?)

KCNA released the picture of Kim Jong-il above on Jan. 18, which, according to them, show him visiting KPA Unit 2752 "recently." The problem is that it shows the same obvious photoshopping glitch as a photo released last year. Both show a line along the long podium behind Kim Jong-il abruptly disappears on one person away from each side of him. I have to wonder why they keep showing such a picture with the same kind of well-publicized glitch. Is this sign of chaos and incompetence or deliberate sabotage of some kind to show that all is not well in...
  • Bleached-out Beyoncé

Yesterday we saw Beyonce’s ad for L’Oreal, and were shocked to find the star’s skin color several shades lighter than her usual complexion. She looked very pale, but even we never imagined L’Oreal would ‘whitewash’ the pics by digitally lightening her skin.

Identifying Manipulated Images New tools that analyze the lighting in images help spot tampering. By Erica Naone   True or false? The tool used above spots whether an image has been manipulated by modeling the lighting in the image based on an analysis of visible surfaces. To analyze an image, a user indicates the surfaces to consider using contour lines (shown above in white). The system checks for inconsistencies in the way that those surfaces are lit. Thought this could be fun I found this picture and wonder what some of you guys could come up with. Here is the picture and caption. Actor Richard Dreyfuss holds up a sign at a candlelight vigil in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles on August 17, 2005. Anti-war protesters held candles, sang, and chanted in vigils across the country on Wednesday in support of Cindy Sheehan, who has camped out near President George W. Bush's ranch to urge him to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, where her son was killed a year ago. Sheehan has become a...
