Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms will no longer co-host “The NFL Today” on CBS. James Brown, Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher will remain on the show, and will be joined this season by former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, according to the New York Post. Brown, Cowher, Esiason and Simms were all at the end of their current contracts this year, leading many — including the Post — to speculate that changes might be in the wind for the show’s hosting lineup. Esiason will remain as co-host on WFAN’s...

Peyton Manning is 0-6 with this guy as referee. ... The Denver Broncos, with Peyton Manning, are 0-4 when Bill Vinovich is referee. In fact, Peyton Manning is 0-6 in his career with Vinovich, since Vinovich was promoted to referee in 2004. ... Before we begin, a disclaimer. I know the Broncos didn't play well enough to win against the Bengals. I know the refs didn't throw four interceptions Monday night (although you could argue they threw one). I know Peyton Manning wasn't clutch, and I know the defense struggled, and I know all of these things contributed far more...

Redskins fans are mad at Phil Simms for his stated desire to avoid using the team name on Thursday night. Some of them took out their anger by bringing anti-Simms signs to FedEx Field. Simms is part of the CBS broadcast team working Thursday’s Redskins-Giants game.

A petition started Monday on Change.org to ban CBS analyst Phil Simms from calling Denver Broncos games had gotten more than 19,600 signatures by early evening. Apparently many Broncos fans think Simms was biased .... However you feel about retired New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, the Broncos petition is getting a lot of signatures. The number of signers went up by nearly 1,000 signatures in the time it took me to write this.

NEW YORK — CBS lead analyst Phil Simms plans to try to avoid saying “Redskins” during Washington’s nationally televised game against the New York Giants. ... Simms’ broadcast partner, play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, said then that it’s “not my job to take a stance.”

On his Friday program, Keith Olbermann called on ESPN to "officially" ban the use of "Redskins." Citing Greg Gumbel, Tom Jackson, Peter King, Phil Simms, Mike Caray, Tony Dungy and others who have expressed concerns about using the team's name, Olbermann said that ESPN is the "conduit of sports" in the country while also being "loathe to be the news." Olbermann said that list of the words he and his colleagues cannot say on the air is "justifiably long" and "way less offensive than the name of the Washington team." He said he personally felt that "it is time for...
