ALBION — Before her husband was brought into Town Court here Thursday afternoon to answer a charge that he murdered her sister last month, Kimberly Cardenas told reporters, "I want to jump on him and strangle him." She wasn't kidding. After Carlos A. Cardenas was taken out of court following a two-minute arraignment, Kimberly Cardenas bolted from the chamber, ran out of Town Hall and sprinted to confront her husband as sheriff's deputies led him away. Officers and friends restrained Kimberly Cardenas as she screamed at her husband, who told investigators that he stashed his sister-in-law's body in his basement...

The observance at Saturday’s football game was no different. A moment of silence was followed by a military airplane flyover; in between, Block-I students chanted “USA, USA.” This was neither patriotism nor remembrance in any justifiable sense, but politicization, militarism, propaganda and bellicosity. The University is a public institution that encompasses the political views of all, not just the most (falsely) “patriotic.” Athletic planners should cease such exploitation for political purposes. They might at least consider how most Muslim students, American or otherwise, would respond to this nativist display; or better, Muslims and others that live their lives under the...

For the most part, people from Mexico and Central America just attempted to torch an apartment building 40 minutes ago so this is ramping up a few notches. This is the 3rd night in a row...Their current excuse for taking to the streets is the fatal shooting by LAPD of a drunken Guatemalan, who was likely here illegally, was threatening people with a knife 3 days ago, in broad daylight. Generally this would not be breaking news, but since television news media in LA is all but ignoring this, I thought it should go in breaking news. This is occurring...

(snip) Alameda County prosecutors have charged Tiburcio Sanchez, 24, Miguel Michel, 41, Mohammed Zarin Khan and Manuel Trujillo with murder, attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of false imprisonment. Khan's and Trujillo's ages are...

POLICE and immigration officials are searching for a man who escaped immigration detention while on an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium last week. The incident is among a spate of recent escapes from immigration detention centres. A Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) spokesman said the man was on a supervised visit to the aquarium, in central Melbourne, when he slipped away. The spokesman, who declined to be named, would not confirm details of the man's nationality or the reason he had been detained, citing privacy reasons and said he could not give a description of the wanted man. Police...

EDITORIAL November 16, 2009 There are 16 million children in immigrant families in the United States, one of the fastest-growing segments of the population. It’s an old American story made new (snip) when waves of human displacement in recent decades have led to immigration on a scale not seen since Ellis Island. But a country that has been so good for so long at integrating new Americans is stumbling under the challenge. That is the conclusion of Professors Marcelo and Carola Suárez-Orozco, fellows at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton and co-directors of immigration studies at New York University....

“No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.” We love to quote Winston Churchill when reflecting on the human condition. In life and in legacy his persona of calm resolve has helped steady the nerves of Western civilization through the murderous rampages of Hitler, Stalin and Mao. But when he spoke the words above, Sir Winston was not referring to Fascism or Communism he was talking about Islam Maybe, just maybe, after seeing half his country blasted to smithereens by the Nazis while helping to save the known world from total destruction...maybe Winston knew a thing or two about good...
