POLICE and immigration officials are searching for a man who escaped immigration detention while on an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium last week.
The incident is among a spate of recent escapes from immigration detention centres.
A Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) spokesman said the man was on a supervised visit to the aquarium, in central Melbourne, when he slipped away.
The spokesman, who declined to be named, would not confirm details of the man's nationality or the reason he had been detained, citing privacy reasons and said he could not give a description of the wanted man.
Police were given only a vague description of the man ...
DIAC has been under fire following a series of escapes ...in recent months.

“would not confirm details of the man’s nationality or the reason he had been detained, citing privacy reasons and said he could not give a description of the wanted man.”
Oh, that’s helpful! Sad thing is, our courts and bureaucrats have determined the same ‘privacy’ insult.
The new politically correct wanted poster:
“Man wanted! no description allowed!”
The PC world is killing us : No profiling.
Well, anyway, by doing this they can save a lot of money on their wanted posters.
In fact, I just noticed that I committed a gender crime with my previous post. But if you change one word, then you have an ALL PURPOSE, POLITICALLY CORRECT WANTED POSTER.
Just print up this one poster, and you’ll never have to print another:
“Person wanted! No description allowed!”
The PC police could save on ink.
Just use blank posters
