SEOUL, South Korea — Travis King, the U.S. Army private who intentionally ran across the border into North Korea this summer, is back in U.S. custody, an American official said Wednesday, shortly after the isolated East Asian country said it would expel the soldier. “U.S. officials have secured the return of Private Travis King from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea," Pentagon spokesman Brig. BAKHMUT, Ukraine — Surrounded on three sides, this eastern Ukrainian city has held out for months in bloody defiance against invading forces, Russian shells pounding day and night against streets coated with snow and rubble. "Bakhmut holds" is a patriotic battle-cry heard across the country, cementing the city as a symbol of national resistance. And it still...

After the Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, some doctors are highlighting the 2012 death of a pregnant woman in Ireland and warning that the same thing could happen on a large scale in the United States. Dr. Savita Halappanavar, a 31-year-old Indian-born dentist, died in 2012 in Galway, on Ireland’s west coast, after she was denied an abortion by doctors who cited the country’s strict laws, despite there being no chance of her baby’s survival, according to Ireland’s official report on the case. Her death shook the foundations of the traditionally conservative and predominantly Roman Catholic...

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The body of Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney, the 3-year-old girl who was abducted in Birmingham on Oct. 12, was found inside of a dumpster at a landfill, Police Chief Patrick Smith said Tuesday night. Smith said two persons of interest detained early on in the search, Patrick Stallworth and Derick Brown, will be charged with capital murder and kidnapping in connection with Kamille's disappearance and death. Stallworth was jailed on child porn charges and later released on a $500,000 bond. His attorney told WVTM 13 his client was "outraged" to have his name linked to kidnapping case. Brown,...
