The father of a teenage girl who deputies say was kidnapped on Christmas Day found her using his phone’s parental controls, according to authorities in Texas. A 15-year-old girl was reported kidnapped from the Houston suburb of Porter on Thursday after her parents said she took her dog out for a walk but did not return, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Authorities said the girl’s father tracked her phone using parental controls, which led him to a secluded, partially wooded area in Harris County, roughly two miles from Porter. Her father located her and her...
  • New Windows Laptop - How to Setup Parental Controls? (Vanity)

Sorry for the link back to the Free Republic home page. I could not figure out how to post this without a source link. My 8-year old grand-niece's mother sent her a new HP laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed, and asked me to set it up. I have used Apple products exclusively at home, and always had dedicated IT people at work. I feel like a complete neophyte with Windows 10 stuff. I read online that the Windows parental controls are not good, and I should use third party software. Is that true? If so, what software do you-all recommend?...

Till now our traditional Catholic household has always enjoyed life free of television except occasional DVD viewing. With a new elderly member of the household, with reluctance we are considering setting up limited, low budget, low tech, due to privacy concerns (no Alexia nor two way TV with camera nor google for example) television platform for the member's viewing. We wish to not pay for nor deal with bundles of shows that are objectionable or otherwise will not...

Americans overwhelmingly want Big Brother to butt out of their TV watching, according to a new study of U.S. viewing habits set for release Tuesday. According to the survey, done this month by Russell Research for TV Watch, 81 percent of American TV watchers worry about the kinds of programs their children could be exposed to, and 91 percent of parents said more parental involvement is the best way to keep kids from seeing what they shouldn't see. Just 9 percent of parents said the government should increase control and enforcement of network television programming. The survey arrives in time...
