ABC's "Nightline" stretches its #1 late night ranking to four weeks - which hasn't happened since 1995. With 3.74 million Total Viewers Nightline beat CBS' "Late Show" and NBC's "The Tonight Show." All three shows were in original productions — no re-runs. "Nightline" also squeaked by Conan in A25-54 viewers with 1,473,000, to "The Tonight Show's" 1,466,000. Last week saw the lowest Total Viewer and A25-54 averages for "The Tonight Show" since the 1991/92 season. ABC's Nightline beat CBS' Late Show with David Letterman last week in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo — with the late night show back in original episodes. NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno was #1. All three shows declined week-to-week in the demo, with only Nightline down in Total Viewers.

This marks the first time in six years (2003) “Nightline” has outperformed “Letterman” for a first quarter. It also marks the first time in nine years “Nightline” has outperformed “Letterman” in the Adults 25-54 demo three quarters in a row. Today on Rush's show he spoke about a Nightline story aired last Friday. The segment, hosted by Terry Moran, apparently charged Rush and other conservatives had stayed away from the Troops deployed in the WOT. Kathy Griffin, a self-described "D-List" comic, was quoted as saying Rush should put his money where his mouth is visit the troops. Ted Koppel, an icon of U.S. broadcast journalism, said on Friday Arabic television news channel Al Jazeera was one of many news outlets that sought to hire him when he left ABC News in November, but he never seriously considered working there. Koppel, who recently joined cable television's Discovery Channel, said he and longtime producing partner Tom Bettag had lunch with an Al Jazeera executive, but it "didn't take long for us to decide that that's not what we were going to do."
