'People': Elizabeth Edwards Authorized Friend to Attack John Over Nightline Interview
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/13/2008 8:23:37 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Elizabeth Edwards authorized a friend to attack John Edwards over his "she was in remission" interview on Nightline. That's the stunning assertion of Sandra Westfall, the "People" magazine writer who authored the article [excerpt here] containing the friend's crticism. Westfall was a guest on tonight's Verdict with Dan Abrams.

DAN ABRAMS: Sandra, let me start with you. Is it fair to say that the story that you guys have in this week's magazine is effectively Elizabeth Edwards' side of the story?

SANDRA WESTFALL: You know, she authorized her brother and her best friend to speak to me on her behalf.

WESTFALL: "You know, they said this is not the John Edwards we thought we knew."

My my, that does sound familiar.... Obambi says that sort of thing a lot. I do hope the John Edwards farce continues to unravel quickly enough to keep some MSM attention, before they decide to wash their hands of it all as "old news" (would not happen with a Republican scandal of course, but with leading Demagogues anything that does not get out quickly while there is still an official scandal may never be heard by most of the public.

Democrats are so silly.

Cancer or no cancer, reps from the DNC cheat on their wives.

JFK

Carter but only in his heart,

Gary Hart

and who can not just love the stain making Clinton, "Oral ain't sex."

Adultery and hurting those who you claim to love is a requirement for leadership positions for DNC.

Anyone who can rationalize destroying the lives and livelihoods of innocent OBGYNs in the Carolinas using phony science can rationalize this.

Lyndon Johnson, according to a girl I know who worked in the WH at the time, fathered a child and one of Johnson’s loyal aides claimed that the kid was his and married the mother.

It doesn't sound like Elizabeth Edwards is quite finished with John just yet especially since there is more coming out that he hasn't told the entire truth.

Are you going to add John McCain to that list? Didn't his wife have cancer as well? Or is it that she just stayed with him the entire time he was in the Hanoi Hilton...

or was it both?

Spin Control...

“No one should assume it was easy,” says Hargrave McElroy, Elizabeth Edwards’ best friend, in PEOPLE magazine’s latest issue hitting newsstands Friday.

Once news of the affair went public, the PEOPLE magazine cover story says Elizabeth Edwards encouraged her husband to come clean.

Friends tell PEOPLE magazine Edwards is working hard to regain his wife’s trust, that they “are not living separate lives. They are together in that house, as before.” They say his remorse “is real” and that “he is in pain.” The magazine describes others in the Edwards’ social circle as “outraged.”

Don’t forget Newt.

Gang, human failure in this regard is pretty much bipartisan. To quote someone who is very quotable when such allegations came to light in his era — As you judge, so you will be judged.

I don’t think either one was running for President of the United States when it happened and/or the wife knew it & still campaigned for him as if nothing had happened!

She'll divorce him, clean him out, and leave the money to the kids.

John will have to move in with Reille because he'll be homeless (part of the “other America” don’tcha know.)

I find it interesting that the people who reflexively blurt out about John McCain’s ancient past (low blow cheap-shots en masse), in response to the news about John Edwards’ situation, seem to be the same people who claim that it’s the rural white people (read “Republicans”) who “wouldn’t vote for an African-American”. Always with the blame-shifting onto Republicans... Always with the projection...

"Roll tape from Nightline interview.

JOHN EDWARDS: Can I explain to you what happened? First of all, it happened during a period after she was in remission from cancer. That's no excuse, in any possible way for what happened.

ABRAMS: Alright, so here's what People magazine reports: "one family friend is outraged by both his behavior and his public apology. The idea that so long as her cancer is in remission, his cheating is somehow not so bad—it's mind-blowing." Before I go to Lynn [Sweet], Sandra, was that person also authorized to speak by Elizabeth Edwards?

WESTFALL: Yeah. I'll tell you that that wasn't the only person who told me that.

ABRAMS: Wow.

WESTFALL: They had former aides screaming at the television --

ABRAMS: Wow.

WESTFALL: -- throughout that interview."

There's nothing like that Gomer Pyle voice offering hair-splitting situation ethics that, after all, she was in remission when he was boinging the girlfriend. Who would think of such a conditional clause to somehow lessen the gravity and evil of adultery?
