Edwards Furious ABC Broke Affair Story Before 'Nightline' Aired By Noel Sheppard Created 2008-08-10 10:32
John Edwards is apparently furious with ABC News for releasing information concerning his affair with former campaign staffer Rielle Hunter before "Nightline" aired Friday evening.
In fact, it appears the reason Edwards agreed to the interview was in the hopes that Americans would be so involved in watching the Olympics his confession would go largely unnoticed.

Edwards had hoped to control the news cycle by making his admission late on a Friday night when the country was watching the Olympics and the long weekend yawned ahead.
According to multiple sources, Edwards was apoplectic that ABC News broke the story on its website and began promoting it early on Friday, giving the rest of the media a chance to play catch-up and cite ABC News’ report. (Representatives for Edwards did not return a call or e-mail for comment.)
I guess when the media sycophantically treats you like an objection of affection, it's easy to assume you'll be able to control them.

He can no longer deny that the affair happened, so he gets angry at the messenger.
He tries to deflect attention from the actual ‘incident’ — the affair — by trying to making the messenger (the media) the object of attention.
He also tried to create a moral equivalence deflection by implying that McCain has a similar history of extra-marital involvement.
These are just attempts to try to deflect attention away from him and his affair on to some other incident or person. They usually don't work.
