For years, Naropa has battled some 150 persistent prairie dogs over 2.5 acres of prime real estate on its Nalanda campus. One side wants to build more classrooms, the other more tunnels. Davis recalled one of her professors asking, "I wonder what we'd do if we ever got termites?"

Three Naropa University employees -- two of them top administrators -- have been fired after an investigation into embezzlement at the Buddhist-inspired school... An internal investigation after an FBI tip found that a finance department employee had embezzled roughly $450,000 from the Boulder liberal arts school over a two-year period. President Stuart Lord said agents from the FBI approached university officials about two weeks ago to tell them the agency had received a report of embezzlement and to ask Naropa to conduct an internal investigation.

"What's the draw for white people to play Indian?" says Ward Churchill. "The same draw during the 1874,5,6 period when the U.S. Nationals flooded into the Black Hills for gold, which was by treaty still Lakota property," says Ward Churchill, University of Colorado Professor of Ethnic Studies and Author of 'Fantasies of the Master Race.' "What's their draw? It's no more opaque than that. This is an exotic form of immaterial gold, intellectual gold, spiritual gold. That's their draw."
