An undated handout photo obtained on August 20, 2015 shows a Callicebus urubambensis or Urubamba brown titi monkey on the left bank of the Río Urubamba, near the Colonia Penal del Sepa, Peru. (AFP) For nearly a century the carcass of a small, reddish-brown monkey from South America gathered dust in a windowless backroom of the American Natural History Museum in New York City. Like a morgue corpse in a drawer with the wrong toe tag, it was a victim of mistaken identity. No one realised during all those years that it was, in fact, a specimen of an unknown...

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investigating a monkey breeding facility in southwest Florida after an animal welfare group said an undercover worker found sick and injured monkeys living in inhumane and unsanitary conditions. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a video Monday purporting to show conditions at Primate Products Inc. in Hendry County. PETA spokesman Dan Paden said the video was taken by a PETA employee who was hired to work undercover at the facility. PETA first gave the video exclusively to The Associated Press. After meeting with PETA, inspectors from the USDA's Animal and Plant Health...

African golden cats are hardly ever photographed in the wild. In their rare, camera-trap cameos, the cats are usually seen licking their spotted fur or innocuously inspecting the unfamiliar lens. But recently, scientists captured a much more dynamic scene: a golden cat crashing a party of red colobus monkeys in Uganda.

Russia appears striving to boost the demand for its language in North Korea, amid signs that the Cold War allies try to build up strong bilateral relations. Russia's Maritime Province of Siberia donated as many as 1,400 Russian books to North Korea, the Russian news agency Interfax said Wednesday. The books vary on the subjects from Russian history, literature, culture, to language. It reported that the state government delegated the donation project to "Russkiy Mir," an orthodox cultural foundation established by Russia's president Vladimir Putin in 2007 as a vehicle for exercising soft power abroad. The foundation delivered the books...

Robin Williams was known for making his audiences howl. That belly-laughing spirit is behind Williams' namesake at the San Francisco Zoo, which named a Howler monkey after the comedian in June. "He's been such a friend and zoo supporter," zoo spokesman Danny Latham said on Tuesday. Williams helped an auctioneer raise money for the zoo last year, and Executive Director Tanya M. Peterson wanted to thank him with the monkey honor before his visit there two months ago. She picked the Howler, Latham said, because it was "loud and hairy," which Williams identified with "almost immediately." The zoo posted a...

With the sun beating down on the strange and exotic-looking meats on sale — some dripping blood, some heavily smoked and impossible to identify — the sights and sounds at this London market are straight out of Africa. Skinned goat carcasses dangle overhead, blackened cow heads and lamb brains are lined up in trays, while baskets tucked in darker corners brim with yellowing strips of cured flesh. Nearby, women hawk spices, cassava and yams, as men in shacks offer cheap airline tickets to Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon, as well as cash transfers back to family members still living on the...

"I am sure Obama is a monkey and doubt he is a human." Obama, a "sub-human," "should not dare stab his finger at … our republic, the people's paradise, like a raven arguing that he is whiter than the heron." "Dark head-dome and dull gray eyes, cavernous nostrils, thick-lipped maw—the more I gaze at him, the more I see a monkey in a primeval forest."

National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen has sent protest letters in the last two weeks to the White House as well as various other Western governments, in which he argues that the Palestinian Authority (PA) planned the failure of peace talks. In the letter, Cohen states that the PA deceived US Secretary of State John Kerry regarding its intentions in the talks. Haaretz published the letter on Wednesday, after having received a copy on April 22. A 65-page document submitted to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas by PA Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat on March 9 is attached to the letter. The date places the document...

HOUSTON, Don’t mess with monkeys in Texas… During an appearance on “Great Day Houston,” a Capuchin monkey was none too pleased when host Deborah Duncan teased him with a grape. Wilson the monkey, who starred in Dr. Dolittle, took the piece of fruit away from Duncan and then slapped the KHOU-TV host in the face. “I think you just got told by a monkey,” Wilson's keeper said after he smacked her. Duncan apologized to Wilson as crew members laughed in the background. “I’m sorry, I didn't mean to tease you,” Duncan said. Wilson was on the show as part of...

Fears are growing that the most lethal form of the Ebola virus can mutate into an airborne pathogen, making the spread of the terrifying disease more difficult to check. It was previously thought the untreatable virus, which causes massive internal bleeding and multiple organ failure, could only be transmitted through contact with infected blood. But now Canadian researchers have carried out experiments showing how monkeys can catch the deadly disease from infected pigs without coming into direct contact.k

I’ve traveled the country with dogs for over 20 years, so I can honestly say I have slept in some not so swift rooms and some that have been oh-so-divine. Pet friendly, however, is not always what it’s cracked up to be, and if you’ve had a less-than-stellar experience at a supposed “pet friendly” establishment, you are nodding in agreement. How many of you, when calling a hotel or facility to ask if they are pet friendly ask something like this: “Hi. Can you tell me if you allow pets?” How many of you ask, “Hello, are you pet welcoming?”...

CNN’s Erin Burnett found herself confronted with the idea of Rand Paul as a “rabid spider monkey,” after a guest on her show used the imagery to describe the Kentucky senator in a fight. While discussing the feud with Gov. Chris Christie, Burnett’s guest, Hogan Gidley, a former communications director for Rick Santorum pointed out that Rand Paul refused to be bullied. “What’s fascinating to me here is Rand Paul saying, bring it on and if you come at me, I’m going to come at you like a rabid spider monkey, and he hit him right in the face,” Gidley...
