Welcome to the weekend and here we are. I am your currently sober drunk host. Day 369 Of The Dictatorship Of CPVID-19, Day 369 Of America And The World Held Hostage To Vaxx Or Not To Vaxx That Is The Question? President Trump endorsing vaccination against COVID-19 this week. Bue he kept a secret until the end of last month. Trump himself was vaccinated at the White House at the beginning of January but we only learned about it when the CPAC speech happened February 28th. One can point out that Mr. Trump needed anti-vaxx support for his political agenda...

TriStar Pictures has landed worldwide distribution rights to the Mr. Rogers biopic “You Are My Friend,” with Tom Hanks attached to play the iconic TV personality. “Diary of a Teenage Girl” director Marielle Heller is helming the pic from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. “I’m thrilled to be making ‘You Are My Friend,'” Heller said. “The script knocked me out with its message of kindness and its exploration of the human spirit. As a mother, I am so inspired by the teachings of Fred Rogers and as a human I am in awe of his life’s work....

Mister Rogers: American icon or hate criminal? by Daniel Clark "Boys are boys from the beginning, and girls are girls right from the start." This bit of political heresy was brought to you by PBS. Or at least, it used to be. Fred Rogers sang those lyrics frequently on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which aired from 1968 all the way until 2001, yet nobody ever seemed to find anything wrong with it. What small-minded bigots we all must have been. In this new, enlightened age of ours, you can't just go around saying that one's sex is an immutable fact of...

The FBI and state and local police are intensifying their probe into Monday's bombing at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, vowing a "worldwide investigation" and appealing to the public for tips and cell phone pictures that might yield clues about who was behind the horrific attack. "At this time there are no claims of responsibility," FBI officials said in a press conference Tuesday. "The range of suspects and motives remains wide open." Three died and at least 176 were injured when two bombs went off just before 3 p.m., shattering a festive atmosphere several hours after the legendary...

Mister Rogers summered in a modest, gray, shake-shingled house on the edge of Nantucket. My mother rented a tiny cottage next door. So Mister Rogers really was my neighbor. I first met Mister Rogers on Sept. 4, 2001 -- my thirtieth birthday. I was a bit lost at the time. My parent's divorce and chronic relocation left me a serial monogamist (but commitment phobe) hooked on rock ’n’ roll fantasy. Everything would be fine, I reasoned, if I could get famous for expressing my dysfunction; it seemed to work for everyone in Rolling Stone magazine and on MTV. So I'd...

Fred Rogers, the late TV icon, told several generations of children that they were "special" just for being whoever they were. He meant well, and he was a sterling role model in many ways. But what often got lost in his self-esteem-building patter was the idea that being special comes from working hard and having high expectations for yourself. Now Mr. Rogers, like Dr. Spock before him, has been targeted for re-evaluation. And he's not the only one. As educators and researchers struggle to define the new parameters of parenting, circa 2007, some are revisiting the language of child ego-boosting....

15 Reasons Mister Rogers Was the Best Neighbor Ever Back when I was in 7th grade I stood up in front of my English class and delivered a tongue-in-cheek, poorly researched presentation on why I thought Mister Rogers should be the next President. I ate up the first few minutes zipping up my cardigan, and putting on some sneakers, and then I proceeded to mock him roundly. It was a riotous success. Fourteen years later, I’m using this post to repent. The following are 15 things everyone should know about Fred Rogers: 1. Even Koko the Gorilla loved him...

Fred Rogers saw it coming and knew it could be a problem. A group of psychologists released a study this week that found today's college students are more self-centered and narcissistic than those of previous generations. In part, the researchers pointed to overindulgent adults for raising children to believe they are "special" no matter what they do. Mister Rogers, of course, wrote the seminal song on this subject in 1967 -- the lyrics say "You are my friend, you are special." The researchers didn't blame Mister Rogers in any way. But the late, great pioneer of developmentally appropriate children's television...
