Merriam-Webster dictionary's 5th definition of the word 'preference' cites 'orientation' and uses the example of 'sexual preference'. On Wednesday the definition was updated to explain the term is offensive. Amy Coney Barrett was slammed for using the term during her SCOTUS hearings. On Tuesday Senator Mazie Hirono said Barrett's appointment to the Supreme Court would pose a threat to same-sex marriage law Obergefell v. Hodges.
