The Gibsons suffered horrific stress as a result of Oberlin's lies and involvement in protests as well as boycotts, which culminated in the college and its former dean of students Meredith Raimondo being ordered to pay out $44 million for defamation in 2019. That was later reduced to $33 million, but Oberlin has arrogantly declared that it still won't pay out after losing a state court appear earlier this month. It has also refused to apologize, despite multiple college staff and numerous resources being deployed for the protests and boycotts. Meanwhile, Raimondo has landed on her feet with a cozy...

The combined compensatory and punitive damages ($25 million) and attorney’s fees and costs (over $6.5 million) awards in favor of Gibson’s Bakery and its owners left Oberlin College almost $32 million in debt. Yesterday Oberlin College posted the bond (pdf.), a copy of which is embedded at the bottom of this post. The bond is in the name of the college and co-defendant Meredith Raimondo, even though the college, according to court documents, has agreed to cover any amounts owed by Raimondo. There is no indication what assets, if any, Oberlin College had to pledge to secure the bond. Normally...

Update: Since this article was originally written, President Marvin Krislov and Dean of Students and Vice President Meredith Raimondo have issued an official response to Student Senate’s resolution ceasing all support for Gibson’s Bakery, financial and otherwise. The text of the response can be found here. Chants of “No justice, no peace” reverberated across campus from early morning into late last night as hundreds of protesters lined West College Street, calling for a boycott of Gibson’s Bakery. An altercation between Gibson’s employee Allyn Gibson and College sophomore Elijah Aladin Wednesday evening led to the Oberlin Police Department arresting Aladin and...

Star Parker is a columnist for The Daily Signal and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education. For those who despair that the rule of law in America is being crushed by liberal fake news, we have encouraging news out of Ohio. A jury has ruled that Oberlin College, one of the nation’s most left-wing institutions of higher learning, must pay the proprietors of Gibson’s Bakery in Oberlin, Ohio, $11.2 million in damages for libel, slander, and other disruptions that the college caused in the business by encouraging false charges of racism. The day after the 2016...
