On Wednesday, The New York Times ran a story in its food section about a new cookbook by New York Times writers Frank Bruni and Jennifer Steinhauer called “A Meatloaf in Every Oven: Two Chatty Cooks, One Iconic Dish and Dozens of Recipes — From Mom’s to Mario Batali’s” (Grand Central Life & Style). In it, the two discussed the book’s recipes and the people who contributed them — chefs, politicians, friends and family. On Sunday, the Algemeiner, a publication with a large Orthodox readership, published a piece criticizing the Times for its coverage of the book — in particular,...

"Meat loaf and mashed taters, and maybe some steamed summer squash on the side. Meat loaf needs gravy or its juices, on top. At the Maggie's HQ, we make meat loaf the Italian way: Italian Meat Loaf Recipe. Italian-style meat loaf usually has a dash of nutmeg and/or allspice in the recipe, but that particular one does not. I do not think they make this in Italy. Maybe it's a modified meat-ball recipe, but they don't eat meatballs in Italy either. (Nor do Swedes cook Swedish Meatballs.) Best thing about meat loaf? Meat loaf sandwiches the next day or two....

Those of us who understand how the New Blacklist works aren't at all surprised to hear Meatloaf's claim that after being outed as a Republican he now has fewer media outlets interested in helping him to promote his work. But it's the reaction of the Esquire writer that's most interesting: MEATLOAF: I'm not dealing with those subjects. Hell in a Handbasket is not dealing with the political nature of the country. It's dealing with the humanity and the compassion of the world. I can give you an example — I've been banned from two TV shows. ESQUIRE: For what? ML:...

Outdated rock ‘n roll singer Meatloaf exploded Tuesday after learning he could get better gas mileage by losing weight. “You’re kidding me?” he said when learning of a University of Illinois study that concluded America will be out of fuel by the end of 2020 if fat people don’t exercise, lose weight, and become generally miserable because they’re no longer fat and content. [Full disclosure: Your stupid narrator is fat and content.] “Hell, if I had known I could burn more fossil fuels by eating another hamburger a day, I would have done it earlier. But it’s never too late...

IT'S a bird, it's a plane — it's superbulge! "Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh is supposedly giving the suits at Warner Brothers fits because of his prodigious package of masculinity. The 26-year-old beefcake's extra-large endowment is said to be so distracting through his skin-tight costume that producers may have to shrink him during post-production. "It's a major issue for the studio," a "Superman Returns" production source fretted to the London Sun. "Brandon is extremely well-endowed and they don't want it up on the big screen. We may be forced to erase his package with digital effects."

John F. Kerry and George W. Bush bring different and formidable personal assests to bear in their respective efforts to to capture The White House in Election 2004. Both men can perform well in the public forum, but for dramatically different reasons. In the final analysis, it is George W. Bush who will ultimately win over the public after a period of prolonged exposure. I think of it as the difference between two CDs I purchased to keep me company on a recent road trip. One was Parachutes by Coldplay, the other was Bat Out Of Hell by Meatloaf. The...
